The Bias In Our Books: Uncovering Hidden Truths

Two days ago, I started a series that's mainly about chefs and food but I'm reminded of this series when I saw the prompt because a character in the story actually time-slipped to the past (about 500 years ago) and what was only about food began to have a blend of how history is being perceived and perverted over the years.

In the character's words about what happened in the future she came from, the present King is a tyrant and he is remembered for all the bad things he did. But as she continued to live in the past age to see the history written unfold before her, she realizes why the king acted the way he did and that he wasn't actually a tyrant but hurt.

I am almost sure that the writer's of the king's history were one of those who planned treason against the king, they made the king a bad one in the books of history and this lady read, believed and didn't bother to confirm until she actually experienced the whole era herself. It's all fiction but I understood how words can change history.

Every word about history is written from a perspective whether by a single person or a group of people with same interests, it's why we can't totally trust that everything written in history are true. Of course, there are the ones with good enough facts to say what was written is true but there are false or perverted stories told to us too.

I've never really been a fan of the history subject since my school days but I did study it for my grades and to an extent, I read a lot of stories about the past that were interesting, some were boring and some were quite unbelievable especially the ones about science and it's evolution, some were very eye opening and epic.

Honestly, I can't think of any story from history that is untrue or not written as it was, I don't even remember much history stories that I read back in school. But it's sure that history is a big part of our lives today, so many things we do now were first done or inspired or developed from our past either by us or by people who lived before us.

Although I think what's written about my country's history has a lot of lies in it, especially with the slave era. I can't remember the whole story now but I remember reading articles that proved wrongly what I read in old history books. The main problem we have with histories being written or told wrongly is many are uninterested.

We don't see the need to be sure about our history or where we're coming from. I remember a prompt we were asked to write on, about what our history has helped us in the present. So many things may have changed today but it doesn't makes history irrelevant and we can only hope that the writers of history will be more accurate.

I agree with you, we need to focus on the present , now we have to accept the history the way it is even though the writer is not that accurate.

Our present and future are what matters more now, the past should remain for our lessons.

The one writing or telling the story gets to choose who the villain is and who the hero in the story will be and that is exactly what happened here.

Perspective! That’s the word.

If we were to see things from various points of view, history wouldn’t be what it is today, really. Because there’s more than one point of view in every story.

That's just it, it would be a different story from different perspectives.

History isn’t always about what really happened, but how people choose to tell it. Power, pain, and bias shape every story, while truth sometimes gets lost

Yeah, the people who tell it changes history or what really happened to fit their interests, sadly.

The modifications are crazy...lies upon lies , filter upon filter . I wonder if history is still done as a subject in secondary school because I am begining to see no need since truth are being withheld

Lol I wonder too, there's really no need in teaching lies. 😅
