Education Trends: Access, Equity And Opportunities
Indeed, the world has evolved so much that so many things that seemed impossible before are now a norm especially in the aspect of education. I remember seeing an old movie that portrayed my country of old when education was solely for the male children and the girls were made to just stay home, marry and birth children.
Another movie I saw, all genders were allowed to study in schools but inside the school, the poor background students were not allowed to get access to some education benefits and the rich background students have access to everything but became bad behaved and causing problems for the school and their parents at home all day.
In our world today, Education has become a norm for everyone that those who refuse to go to school to attain a level of education are seen as being stubborn, disgraceful and even a bad person in a society. It's not all that bad but considering how far we've come, Education should be a matter of choice and not privilege.
Education in my country, Nigeria for a long while have been for all genders but it has not always been like that, which I think is same for many other countries. It's a wonder how we didn't see the need to educate women back in those days, my grandma was one of those women but that fueled her desire to educate her children today.
Today, we seem to even have more females studying to great levels in school than the males. Yeah, that's not a proven statistics but it's to show how much importance my country have put into educating every person who shows the interest. Interest starts at home because I know of families that still prioritise male education.
My country's educational system may not be good yet but from my experience through school, it's not as bad either. I remember we had the female students participating in a lot of activities as the male students, the access and equity towards opportunities in the school was well executed. Every student had same opportunities.
Some weeks ago, I was reminded of a woman who have climbed to the highest level of education in her field of study. A beautiful reminder that women can achieve just as much as the men did in the past and even much more, so long it's their choice. Women are allowed to decide to study or choose not to, it's all choice.
Equity by giving education to all genders doesn't mean everybody have to be equal in what they can offer during and after school, it all depends on personal decisions and personal backgrounds. Of a truth, not everyone is able to cater for their educational needs even though they desire to, this is where scholarships rocks.
Sadly, not all can have access to scholarships and not all schools can give it, it goes to say, with the desire for education comes hardwork and responsibilities to scale through. I believe having a country where both genders can go to school now is a starting point to having a world where there would be free and better education for all.

Our country's educational system may not be great currently but good enough the yoke of a girl child studying at home has been broken
Look at us now...females are even toping
Lets hope that the future will be more awesome
Yeah, it's a huge step and we hope the educational system get better.
I was wondering why female children were restricted then from going to school. Now in our days, women shows so much passion for education than men do.
It's still a wonder, I guess they didn't see the need for them to be schooled.
It's well
That was the mistake of the past that deprived my grandma of going to school she would have been great in her discipline as the society, even the educated came to her for counseling then glad we're moving forward all gender can now go to school and study what they like
It's really sad, a lot of our old women today would have done a lot better now if they had gone to school.
They missed a long
the poor would be the case of this matter. Everyone has the ability to be educated, but not everyone has the ability to finance education. Everyone has the same opportunity, but finance is the issue
Yeah, that has always been an issue for some.
I don't know why girls weren't allowed to go to school back then, they were believing to be born solely for domestic duties. But in this new era, women are excelling and reaching new heights.
I also don't know why, it just felt right to them back then. Glad it's not the case today.
This is so true as education as great as it is, isn't free
True, nothing good comes easy lol.
I'm incredibly grateful for how our education system evolved post-apartheid. During apartheid, specifically black students suffered. Bound by the "bantu education act" that basically meant black children only had access to sub-par education. The idea behind t was sickening, really. It was designed to keep the black population from growing and thriving and it subjected so many to the reality that they would never get into University or obtain valuable careers. There was a massive uprising as students went on a peaceful strike in 1976 - also known as the Soweto Uprising, where students were petitioning against this completely unfair act. Apartheid police opened fire on unarmed children. We commemorate them and their sacrifice that heled to reshape our country by celebrating Youth Day as a national public holiday, every year.
That's really sad to know, it's sad that situations like that have to happen before big changes are made in our world.
