Conceiving Controversy: My Thoughts On Surrogacy

One movie about surrogacy I watched some time ago, the surrogate woman began to threaten to take the child back if they don't pay her higher than they had agreed, it turned out she suffered more than what she thought she was being paid for. The couple paid more since having the child was way valuable than that and she went away.

This story might be just very normal, maybe very understandable for those involved in surrogacy but my point is, I've never actually thought people do it in real life even with the mind that many movies are based on true life stories. Renting a womb to a childless couple for whatever reason.

Surrogacy is a really complex aspect of parenthood, from all I know about it and at a point, I just can't help but wonder how humans came to think of such solution to problems surrounding child birth. But then, I bet there are people who are grateful for this development especially the infertile couples with children now.

My simple thought on this complex matter is that, so long the ethics of the action and the emotions of the parties involved are put in high considerations and it is done for the right reasons, surrogacy can happen and there should be no loosed ends in dealing with the legality.

Is this something I feel I would ever get involved in if I had to? Honestly, I can't say never on this one because I feel like I might get very scared to carry a child through the whole months of pregnancy, it's a whole lot of sacrifice I see women do but it is what God wants from women.

I wish I wouldn't have to go through the body changes, pains and sufferings that comes with birthing a child but like women of experience have affirmed over and over, it is what makes the joy full and lasting for having your own child.

I don't want to go through all the bad possibilities in opting for surrogacy to have one's child and how it is for the surrogate herself, I believe in most cases, the end result is what matters most for those involved... Having the child in good health and the surrogate gets what they want or are happy for helping a couple that's childless.

Should this method of childbearing be abandoned in favor of traditional methods? One of the punishments from the beginning of man committing sin is that the woman will have to bear her children in pain. I believe nothing can replace that but there is always the easy way out.

So for the fact that surrogacy has come to stay and helped many couples to have their own child, it shouldn't be abandoned in favour of the traditional method but if there is a way to make sure it is not done simply for the fact that the woman is trying to run away from her responsibility as a woman to birth her own child.

There are many complexities to using a surrogate mum to have a child from the ethical aspects to the emotional aspects but if all parties involved are clear on their roles and support to be given, it gets simple, hopefully it is the case for many.

It really is very scary when I think of delivering a baby though 😅

To be honest I don't want to discuss too much about it as it's a very concerning matter for women. But I prefer not to go for surrogacy unless it's necessary.

It’s actually about wish and consent. Someone wishes and other consents to do so. More than societal it’s individual concern. As you mention nothing much can be debated on it

That's just it, it depends on the individuals involved.

My dear, this matter is really complicated and can't impose my perception on any one.

Let those who must do it, do it.
I just don't think I can

As long as this method is used for the right reasons, as in the case of infertile couples, then there is no need to abandon surrogacy for traditional methods only.

This is a complex ground to thread like you said
Most times it doesn’t really end well for the surrogate mums and they keep making more demands.
If this is something someone would really have to go through, I think it should be well thought after. I don’t know of any real life cases except in movies

Same here, I didn't even think it actually happens in real life lol.
It's something that has to be done with many things put into consideration.
