Beyond The Status Quo: Questioning Widely Accepted Ideas

They are countless, statements that just didn't go down well with me and what I believe. I've had to agree with many too but some, I just can't because they seem to be wrong for many reasons. Like the saying goes "Everyone has the right to their thoughts" so I'm just using my right.

If there is one thing my country people are good at, it's giving statements that a lot of times, were born out of certain situations and stories heard. It's okay to give statements but there should also be the freedom to disagree with them if it isn't okay for some people who thinks they are wrong.

I have a lot of widely accepted ideas I don't agree with but I'll share only these four that I remember at the time of writing this post. You may accept them to be right and I'm not saying you're wrong to do that, so this is just me sharing my thought.

The status Quo says "You should always follow your dreams" I don't know how it is in other countries but I think this particular saying isn't for people in my country. So many people have their dreams changed for countless kind of reasons and they still end up living fine, some live badly.

I mean, it's fine to dream but is it really okay to keep trying to follow a dream when you seem to be good in something else that might help you do better in life than that dream of yours? My problem with the statement is the "always" in it, follow your dreams but also know when to stop.

The status Quo says "Success is solely dependent on hardwork" and I'll say the world has changed too much to believe this. I think many are coming to disagree with this statement though, especially all those who have experienced different kinds of success their way.

Success is one of those words that have no definite definition because it depends on every individual and what they view success as. So saying it is solely dependent on hardwork is like taking away the possibility of having success through smart thinking, lucks and opportunities.

The status Quo says "You can't change who you are" and there is also the "A fool at 40 is a fool forever" that kind of goes along with that first statement. I can not bring myself to accept these two for many reasons. One being that "Change is a constant thing" so that "Can't" is unacceptable.

There is "Intentional living", knowing one's life's purpose late but being intentional about living that purpose until it becomes a part of you. If we conclude that we can't change who we are, how do we explain our changing thoughts and abilities as we grow older? It doesn't make sense.

The status Quo says "Don't count your chickens before they hatch" and I'm not agreeing to this statement only because of the power of planning. So long it's a positive assumption that something could happen, there's nothing wrong with that. There are truths in this statement still.

I'll stop here and invite you to share your thoughts on these statements in the comment section. Join the Hive Reach out Initiative if you haven't, inviting @babygirl888 and @lecia89 too.

Thank you for the invite. Here is my take on the phrase "success is solely dependent on hard work." I disagree since some people work extremely hard but still do not strive, and others attain their goals without stress, which I refer to as favor or luck on their journey. I know hard effort pays, but it doesn't apply in some situations.

Yeah, hard work pays but there are situations that it applies to.

Most beliefs are based on different situations in life and one thing we need to understand is that we all have different ways to make things happen, it’s not necessary what works for A will work for B. So, with every belief, we have the right to believe or not. I wouldn’t agree to all those sayings too especially that “you can’t change who you are.” Who told you? Common, change is constant and everyone changes either from good to bad or from bad to good.

Lol for real, that statement is just so wrong in many ways. Especially when we think of how time and experiences changes people

You see this last one.
"You can't change who you are" I totally disagree with it too.
Because one can change at any time.

And yes the first one everybody is entitled to their opinion.
I recently wrote something about people boldly making the wrong decisions because they have the right to their decisions because they are adults, forgetting that everyone is prone to mistakes and not perfect.

That's right! We are all entitled to our own opinion but there should always be room for learning because we can make mistakes at any point in time.

Hmmmm
Great thoughts you’ve put out here and I totally agree with you on all of them funny as it may and I especially revoke that last though. I just see it as an excuse for people who do not really want to change but change if desired can happen at all times…succeed can come through other means, hardwork is just a factor in the equation..

Well said friend, but I guess we are all entitled to how we want to see these statements.

There are situation that happens in real life. Most especially the last one. We tends to count our chicks even when the hens begins to lay eggs due to anticipation and great expectation majorly when it comes to business forgetting that 1+1=2 do not work in some real situations of life

Exactly, that first statement refused to work in this country because so many dreams have been shattered as a means of livelihood and for many reasons too.

I won't agree with the second phrase** success is solely dependent on hard work** Hmm!
Some people are not hard-working, and they are successful, while some are very hard-working, yet they struggle every day.

I will agree with the last one because it's happening indeed. Don't count it until they are hatched. The world is wicked 👌

Lol glad you agree with me on them, even though they are a popular saying, it doesn't mean they are right in every situation.

Most of what you listed here stands to be true and you have put in alot of consideration, ideas and understanding into it but as life changes,so does the human mind.

I agree with almost all of your points, except for the last one, and not because of you, specifically, but because sometimes we can express our joy for something that's going to be achieved, and it turns out that in the end, external forces may try or even prevent it from happening. I feel that it's important to know how to express that goal and happiness in an environment that's also conducive.💜

I understand your point too, expectations are most likely to turn out bad most times so it's best we limit it ourselves.

I totally agree with you sometimes we tend to follow our dreams and end up regretting another popular saying time wait for no one ,so if you discovered your good at some things else, why don't you use one stone to chase to birds before it becomes to late to chase anything at all

Thought provoking topic right here. One thing we must not forget is that there are exceptions to every rule and we must learn to challenge the status quo. Not in a bid to cause confusion but to shed light. Great write up 👍
