Adventure And Agony: Sharing My Travel Extremes

I like this prompt for only one reason, it brought me back to a good memory as a lover of travelling but then, it also reminded me of a travel experience I wish I never had and one I would never wish to have again. One can only imagine what worse travel experiences others may have had.

So I have gone on a lot of travels both short and far distances and most of them had a few challenges and fun together while one was the worse for me and the other is the best yet. I'll start by sharing my worst travel experience leaving the best for last.

Agony - My Worst Travel Experience

For this post, I wish I had pictures to show for what happened on that worse travel day but I'm still happy I don't have any to show, wouldn't want to have a bad memory on my phone gallery anyways lol. This picture below is close as it shows one of my first encounters before I began the journey.

I know it is normal in my country, Nigeria to be in queues for hours, encounter bad roads and meet corrupt officers at every security posts on the road but it really gets frustrating and exhausting when these acts are in triple or even doubled. First off, that day's journey to a new state first like I picked the wrong day and we all know how that thought alone can change everything.

First, it was the long queue at the park to get registered and wait for available vehicle. I didn't take breakfast since I felt it would be a short journey and to avoid taking any relief excuse on the way. We managed to get inside the bus, choked up with the many passengers' loads. I was unlucky again by sitting at the back end.

The right thing about the whole journey that I remember was that the weather was good but it changed when night met us on the way. A supposed short journey I started in the morning got dark and scary at one point. The vehicle got bad and we were asked to get down in the middle of nowhere still far from where we were all headed.

We got info that robbery happened a few distance away from where we were and the driver hurriedly got the vehicle working again and we turned around to use another road, it wasn't funny that day. All these while, I had nothing to eat as I was so focused on when I'll get to my destination.

Stressed out, terrified, annoyed, discouraged... All these words fit that day's journey for me as a worse experience.

Adventure - My Best Travel Experience

I'm glad I have a close enough picture to show for this particular travel experience. You could tell from my smile that I was having a good time, it wasn't my first time using a train station in this particular picture but I also had a good time that day.

I have a dream travel that I'm yet to experience but for now, there is this one that gives me beautiful memories and is my best travel experience for as long as I can remember. It was my first day traveling by a train, from the process to journey experience and reaching my destination was beautiful for a first time.

I got to the station early enough to not meet much on the queue to pay for my tickets, I was given a good seat. Inside the train felt like I was on a plane even though I've never been in one before lol. I also felt like I was going on an adventure, not sure how the journey would be even though it was a place I've visited a lot of times before.

I was opportune to explore the train beyond my seat, got into the VIP section as there were some misplanning and I felt like a celebrity because there were armed soldiers guarding them. Let me not even go on about the lots of laugh I had from listening to jokes all through the journey.

Getting to my destination, I was feeling happy, energized and excited to try it again instead of feeling tired. The journey was faster, 3 hours instead of 7 hours and I got to my destination during the day to do a whole lot more before the night came.
