Un pedacito de las festividades de la Virgen del Valle en Juan Griego [Esp/Eng]

Una vez más, encantada de poder escribir en este espacio creado para todos los hivers que aman esta hermosa isla. Hoy quería comentarles una experiencia que viví hace poco. He visto muchas publicaciones recientes de la comunidad y la mayoría eran sobre las festividades de la Virgen. Fue increíble leer todas esas experiencias, aunque un poco triste porque, al vivir en el otro ladito de la isla, no he ido ni una sola vez en estas épocas al valle.

Once again, I am delighted to be able to write in this space created for all Hivers who love this beautiful island. Today I wanted to tell you about an experience I had recently. I have seen many recent posts from the community, and most of them were about the festivities of the Virgin. It was amazing to read all those experiences, although a little sad because, living on the other side of the island, I have never once been to the valley during this time of year.

Pero, como se ha comentado varias veces, acá en la isla las festividades de la Virgen llegan a todos los rincones: toda la isla está de fiesta sin excepción. Justo hace unos días, a eso de las 5 p.m., tuve que salir de mi casa para esperar a una amiga en el terminal de Juan Griego. Lo que no me esperaba para nada era que, en el tiempo que estuve allí, estaban haciendo una pequeña presentación de danzas frente a la Virgencita.No había una gran cantidad de personas, pero como el espacio donde se realizaba la presentación era pequeño, todos terminaban muy juntitos en un solo lugar. Así que, al principio, solo pude ver la presentación desde un ladito.

But, as has been mentioned several times, here on the island, the Virgin's festivities reach every corner: the entire island is celebrating without exception. Just a few days ago, at around 5 p.m., I had to leave my house to wait for a friend at the Juan Griego terminal. What I didn't expect at all was that, while I was there, they were putting on a small dance performance in front of the Virgencita. There weren't a lot of people, but since the space where the performance was taking place was small, everyone ended up very close together in one place. So, at first, I could only watch the performance from the side.

Luego, al fin, pude tener una mejor vista, pero justo estaban terminando la presentación. Por suerte, anunciaron que aún quedaba un baile, así que ese sí lo pude apreciar mejor. Estuvo muy bonito, las niñas tienen un gran talento y sus trajes, al bailar, se veían increíbles. Admirar los vestuarios de las danzas tradicionales siempre me ha encantado, porque usan una combinación de colores vivos que, en su mayoría, suelen ser los colores de la bandera, y al momento de bailar, con los diferentes movimientos de la falda, se ven espectaculares.

Then, finally, I was able to get a better view, but they were just finishing the performance. Luckily, they announced that there was still one dance left, so I was able to enjoy that one better. It was very beautiful; the girls are very talented, and their costumes looked incredible as they danced. I have always loved admiring traditional dance costumes because they use a combination of bright colors, which are mostly the colors of the flag, and when they dance, with the different movements of the skirt, they look spectacular.

Al finalizar todos los bailes, siguieron con los cantos. Lástima que para esos no me pude quedar, ya había llegado mi amiga y era bastante tarde. Pero me dio mucha alegría saber que las festividades también llegaron a este ladito de la isla y que tuve la oportunidad de disfrutar, aunque fuera un poquito, de esa celebración.

When all the dances were over, they continued with the singing. It's a shame I couldn't stay for that, as my friend had arrived and it was quite late. But I was very happy to know that the festivities had also reached this side of the island and that I had the opportunity to enjoy, even if only a little, that celebration.
