Review: The Other Woman (2014)🎭 [Eng/Esp]

I've been away for a while and haven't posted any reviews, but I'm officially on vacation, so I can finally write again without thinking that I have a lot of things to do. This time, I'm bringing you a review of a movie that I've easily seen about 10 times, and regardless of whether it's good or bad, it's a movie that I associate a lot with my childhood, because every time I visited my grandmother, they always showed it on TNT, which was a TV channel.

Tenía rato desaparecida y sin publicar reseñas, pero oficialmente estoy de vacaciones, así que al fin puedo volver a escribir sin pensar que tengo muchas cosas que hacer. En esta oportunidad les traigo una reseña de una peli que fácilmente me he visto unas 10 veces, y más allá de que sea buena o mala, es una película que asocio mucho con mi infancia, porque cada vez que visitaba a mi abuela siempre la pasaban en TNT, que era un canal de TV.

The Other Woman is a comedy that begins by introducing us to Carly Whitten, a successful lawyer who seems to have found the ideal man, Mark King, but everything falls apart when she discovers that this dream man is married. Far from crying over him, she simply decides to cut off all contact and move on with her life.

Now the real story begins when Mark's wife finds out about his infidelity. Kate is a woman who has dedicated her life to her marriage, to being the perfect wife and making her husband happy, so this situation, compared to Carly's, leaves her devastated. Although her character may seem exasperating at first, you manage to connect with her when you understand that she built her life around her marriage and suddenly found herself with nothing.

Mujeres al ataque es una comedia que en un inicio nos presenta a Carly Whitten, una abogada exitosa que parece haber encontrado al hombre ideal, Mark King, pero todo esto se cae cuando descubre que este hombre de ensueño está casado. Ella, lejos de llorar por él, simplemente decide cortar todo tipo de relación y seguir con su vida.

Ahora la verdadera historia comienza cuando la esposa de Mark se entera de esta infidelidad. Kate es una mujer que dedicó su vida al matrimonio, a ser la esposa perfecta y a hacer feliz a su esposo, por lo que esta situación, a comparación de Carly, la deja devastada. Aunque su personaje puede parecer desesperante al inicio, logras conectar con ella cuando entiendes que construyó su vida en base a un matrimonio y de pronto se quedó sin nada.

The interesting thing about the film is that we don't have two women fighting over a man or not getting along. Instead, they end up forming a kind of friendship, something that, at the time the film was released, broke the cliché that women always have to hate each other, when in reality it is the man who is not worth it.

The story becomes more chaotic when Kate and Carly meet Amber, the third lover, and if you already thought Mark was a horrible person, at this point you wanted to see her revenge. These three women begin to put together their plan, because not only was Mark being unfaithful, but he had also bankrupted the company he had with Kate, leaving everything in her name.

Lo curioso de la película es que no tenemos a dos mujeres peleando por un hombre o llevándose mal. Ellas, en cambio, terminan formando un tipo de amistad, algo que para el momento en que se estrenó la peli rompía ese cliché de que las mujeres siempre tienen que odiarse, cuando en realidad es el hombre el que no vale la pena.

La historia se vuelve más caótica cuando Kate y Carly conocen a Amber, la tercera amante, y si Mark ya te parecía horrible como persona, en este punto ya querías ver su venganza. Estas tres mujeres empiezan a armar su plan, porque no solo Mark estaba siendo infiel, sino que también había llevado a la quiebra la empresa que tenía con Kate, dejando todo a nombre de ella.

There are quite a few unrealistic and exaggerated scenes, but they are very funny. Seeing Mark go from feeling powerful to completely out of control is quite satisfying as a viewer. And although there is revenge, the film makes it clear that the most important thing is the evolution of Kate, Carly, and Amber.

For me, the film fulfills its purpose: to entertain. It is not a complex story, nor does it pretend to be. I hope you enjoyed my post, thank you for reading this far.

Hay bastantes escenas poco realistas y exageradas, pero son muy chistosas. Ver cómo Mark pasa de sentirse poderoso a completamente descontrolado resulta bastante satisfactorio como espectador. Y aunque hay venganza, la película deja claro que lo más importante es la evolución de Kate, Carly y Amber.

Para mí, la peli cumple su propósito: entretener. No es una historia compleja ni pretende serlo. Espero les haya gustado mi post, gracias por leer hasta aquí.
