Life at Home
Hi there! Welcome to my daily blog. Today, I want to share what I’ve been up to. The weather was great today, clear skies from sunrise to sunset, no rain at all. I took the chance to cut the grass around our house. Since my grass cutter broke weeks ago, the grass had grown really fast, thanks to the rain over the past two weeks lol. But today was the perfect day to get it done. With a new carburetor installed, the grass cutter started up without any of the previous issues.
I started in the area where I planted cassava. It’s not just cassava, though; we’ve got other plants there too, like coconut, banana, sweet potato, eggplant, chili, calamansi lime, and papaya. My wife loves how all the different plants make the garden look lively and vibrant. She says it feels more cheerful, so we don’t focus on planting just one type of crop in any given spot. There's another spots with varieties too.
Every time I stopped for a drink, our pregnant dog Lila would come over to greet me. The cats, too, would come by whenever I took a break, not to ask for food since they’d already been fed, but maybe just to check on me. It’s like they have their way of showing care, and it always warms my heart.
Later, I moved on to a cut the grass on the area facing the main road. There’s a blue raised bed there that’s still in progress. We’ve been filling it with kitchen scraps and fruit waste. Once it’s ready, I’ll add soil and mix it all together. Most of the organic waste will have decomposed by then. We haven’t decided what to plant there yet.
For lunch, we had fried fish, sliced mango sambal, mixed with lime juice, and eggplant with salted fish. The eggplant and limes were fresh from our garden. After eating, I continued cut the grass until around 5 PM, when I ran out of fuel for the grass cutter to run. So, I switched tasks and started cleaning out the drain, which was full of the grass I had cut earlier. That drain really needed a good cleaning anyway.
Meanwhile, Lila and her big pup, Lomu, were having the time of their lives, playfully nipping at each other. It’s so entertaining to watch them bond and play.
At the back of the house, my wife was tending to her tinum plants. She’d just placed some sticky yellow insect traps around them to catch pests. If she doesn’t do that, the bugs will eat up the plants. Growing veggies organically is definitely a challenge, but we avoid using pesticides. The results are worth it, it feels so rewarding.
Later at night, before showering, I had some fun hunting house lizards on our ceiling with a small slingshot. It’s oddly satisfying! I’m not a great shot, but I managed to hit a few. When they fell, our cats would immediately pounce on them. What’s funny is that the cats wouldn’t eat the lizards right away; they’d play with them first. Only when the lizards were completely dead would the cats eat them. Free protein for the cats! I hope it’s safe for them—after all, it’s just part of their natural instincts, right?
So, that’s all for today. Thanks for reading! and thank you so much the supports. Have a nice day!
looks like you live a very peaceful life out there. I'm jealous of your gardening skills!
