Zooming Out: Family, 3Speak, and the Road Ahead
It probably looks like I’ve gone quiet for a few too many days in a row, but I think this short break was—and still is—needed. I’ve been hitting the pavement hard for over a year now, and even though it sometimes feels like I haven’t made much of a dent, I know the opposite is true.
A few days ago, my older brother called me out of the blue to tell me he was stuck in Guayaquil. He had planned a surprise visit for my mom’s birthday, but things went sideways when he couldn’t rent a car. Since his arrival at the farm, we’ve been making the most of every moment together. I’m starting to feel a little guilty about the amount of food I keep devouring—but then again, he’ll only be here until the first.
These last few days have also given me space to zoom out. The things I’ve been working on are finally taking shape. I’m nowhere near done, but the direction feels much clearer now.
As some of you might know, we recently soft-launched the new version of 3Speak to gather feedback, find bugs, and improve it as much as possible. The response has been awesome so far, and some of that feedback sparked another idea I’d like to implement in the near future.
I already shared this with Eddie, but here’s the TL;DR:
A lot of Hivers already have YouTube channels. So what if they uploaded to YouTube once, and then either automatically synced those uploads to 3Speak—or selectively pulled a video from their own channel to publish on 3Speak as well?
This approach would let us piggyback on YouTube’s blazing-fast encoding infrastructure and massively improve upload times. It’s still just an idea for now, but once I work out the details, I think it’s something worth building.
On the market side of things, Hive’s recent price recovery seems to have been short-lived. Still, I can’t shake the feeling that the broader market may be close to shifting again. Nobody reads my posts for investment advice—I know that—but if I’m right, BTC dominance could start slipping from here. It’s currently sitting around 57%, and if it drops closer to 50%, sentiment (and behavior) among key holders could change along with it.
At any rate, my friends, I’m still planning to make that “one-year recap” video. But if I don’t get to it, I think I’ll forgive myself—just this once.

I think you could do it, but you would have to walk each user into a making "a custom app" and getting a youtube api key, else as stresskiller said very good chance it would be short lived as they will kill the bandwidth leech.
I built a proof of concept... it works pretty good - Now the trick is to not allow people to download anything BUT their own videos.
Well, I'm just going to say, if you don't use the official API route, be prepared for constant updates. Similar to how https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp is constantly having to make work arounds work to get things to download.
i'm going to research this a bit more... having to rework this over and over doesnt sound like fun lol
