The obsession over Greenland
There is so much here we don’t know, so much we can’t ever know. We are being told it’s a matter of security, of doing “what is right,” yet 68 days ago, this crack in the foundation of peace had never been identified.
Vice-President Vance has been put in an uncomfortable situation, to say the least. Attempting to be careful with his language, he’s removed himself from the intent, presenting the so-called “desire” as him just obeying his highness, Trump—ridiculous. But he’s just doing as he’s told, nothing more, nothing less.
This move, however, feels pulled right out of a film. His ability to do double-speak is leagues above what I would have ever expected.
These lines smacked me across the chin:
“We do not think that military force is ever going to be necessary. We think this makes sense. And because we think the people of Greenland are rational and good, we are going to cut a deal, Donald Trump style, to ensure the safety of this territory, but also the USA.”
Can it be any clearer?
You see, there’s plausible deniability here, and that’s why it’s so mischievous. I’m sure if Vance was confronted about the veiled threat he just made, he’d deny it and simply say that he’s talking about defending America from danger, not attacking a nation.
A Soprano-style move in politics…
I’m feeling exhausted, to be honest. I knew things would be bad, but I never imagined they’d get this bad. I’m reaching a point where even comedy is failing to lighten my mood—not good
MenO
I am right there with you.
I knew things would get a little goofy, the latest election win would be a sort of validation he could do whatever he wanted, and there would be aggressive fleecing of the system because 4 years of opportunity have already been burnt. I couldn’t imagine this stupid shit.
Oil and mineral exploration are banned on Greenland because of the ecological disaster it would be. 54000 Inuit people actually care for nature and always have. Defence is a red herring and everyone can plainly see that.
Being bolted onto this swirling toilet bowl as Canada is exhausting and I am wondering how far our friends will be bent before things break.
who'da thunk winning would feel a lot like making an ass of ourselves.
The biggest Problem is Denmark is part of the NATO and EU , which makes this caste explicit ... this could be the worst step of US ever....
I pray to god and usually i dont pray but this step could be break the whole world as we have known it before
The overlords that give the HATO faction of the EU, that runs the EU, it's marching orders are deliberately divorcing the US from the EU. Trump is just as much a pawn as Analena Baerbock or Ursula Von der Leyen. Successful (and surviving) politicians generally do what they're told, by folks that feel like they can tell them what to do because they can fund it. When someone dumps $100M on you, you listen up. Would be politicians that aren't funded end up like Georgescu, barred from running for election. The whole world is broken and this is the new normal.
We're not really running democracies when oligarchs pick and choose who runs and who doesn't and who has $100M to run with and who doesn't. That's really just plutocracy with a democratic icing. Denmark can't do much with Greenland and given the increased traffic the Arctic is going to see going forward, undefended Greenland is really and actually a 'kick me' sign taped on America's back. 55k unarmed residents aren't going to secure it. The marching orders of the EU from their oligarchs are to keep the Ukraine at war and Denmark is doing their part in that, and won't arm Greenland instead.
I'm not justifying any of these plans or the desecration of sovereignty by the planners. I'm just noting that it is happening. Anyone that wanted to really threaten the US could disregard the wishes of Greenlanders and drop a few troops armed with medium range missiles on it. That would be a lot harder to deal with then than the potential of it happening can be now. Denmark isn't actually threatened by that either, other than of losing control of it's vanity possession Greenland, but the US sure is. Make of that what you will, but it's the reality on the cold, hard, frozen ground up north, and 55k residents don't have the arms to say squat about what any medium sized municipality on the planet has enough resources to do, which is take Greenland from them at will with a few mercs, much less a couple hundred actual countries, armed rebellions, and terrorist drug cartels armed with weapons that were sent to the Ukraine but somehow accidentally ended up on the black market.
Denmark can't defend Greenland, and Hezbollah, Tigrayan rebels, or Nueva Generacion don't give a crap what Greenlanders think or want, and neither do Azov Battalion, Rwanda, or Norks. There's a lot of wannabe warlords and a lot of spare cash just laying around looking for a good investment, and conquering Greenland is hard to beat for ROI, even just by extorting money out of the EU, US, HATO, China, Russia, and Canada, without putting a shovel in the ground after the ~$10T worth of minerals there. Drug gangs are in the process of conquering Haiti as we speak, and there aren't even any resources there other than starving peasants. Rwanda is conquering the DRC right now, for their mineral resources. What is Denmark doing about the threat? Denmark might actually be the distressed seller (who tells us the truth about anything?) because they're providing about $500 million annually to Greenland and can't afford it now, much less afford to spend $B's providing it a proper defense.

I bet the new King Frederik X and his beloved Queen Mary reckon they could spend that $500M/year - plus whatever they could get from the deal - on a lot of things they'd rather have than Greenland. His mother suddenly abdicated and thrust him onto the throne last year - about the time rumblings suddenly started up about Greenland.
Having to cater for Trumps whims must be exhausting. The guy has the attention span of a gnat. It's all about money for him. Vance is sucking up as he said some things about his boss before. These people make me sick.
a grifter like none other
I still have no idea why Trump thinks the US needs to assume control over Greenland. Vance fell a lot in my estimation when the chats leaked and the most resistance he could muster to bombing Yemen was a half-assed wait-and-see delay tactic. This doesn't help his case at all.
look up Praxis Project and Peter Thiel... it will all make sense then.
This obsession with conquering Canada and Greenland is worrying. Are they testing the waters, seeing if their MAGA base likes the idea, before they actually do something more than talk? Or is it just a distraction, one of Trumps ten thousand strands of chaos meant to keep us guessing and not notice what he is actually doing?
Praxis Project and Peter Thiel <--- type that on Grok or whatever AI you want.
It will all make sense. Trump is paying his "debts" that is all.
Ah, there's a fun idea. I didn't realize Thiel was that crazy, but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
seems like the South African paypal bros are a fun bunch.
I see that Vance’s phrasing is calculated, balancing diplomacy and pressure. Power isn’t just about actions but about shaping perception and maintaining control over the conversation
