The myth of having nothing to say (Eng/Esp)

One of the common pushbacks I get from people when I tell them about Hive is the idea that they have nothing to share. A lie, I submit to you, but one that for some reason many of us silly humans hold on to.

The truth is that humanity is a story in itself. We learn from stories, we teach through stories, we transcend through stories. Long before any written medium existed, we humans perfected storytelling. In other words, the fact that you are here, still breathing, tells me you have a story to tell as well.

Today, as I was onboarding more of my friends and family members, I found myself in a deep conversation with @donpacho. My new onboard, but an old friend. I have known Pacho for a very long time, and he was a dear friend of my late grandfather. As I was explaining Hive to him, and how some of the people we know here can truly benefit from it, he shared with me an idea that I am sure has been brewing in his head for many years.

As a business owner, Pacho has had to deal with not only the usual challenges that come with it but also the ever-changing landscape caused by our political instability here in Ecuador. He told me he thinks he could write a book about it, a book he would title “The Problematic Business Partner.” It would be a story of success, mind you, but only because he refused to give up and not because his silent partner, the government, made it easy.

As you can imagine, he was speaking my language. I also share a lot of animosity against the powers that be, so I did not hesitate to onboard him as well. I want him to share this story with me, with us, and leave it forever living in this immutable ledger.

Of course, I told him that we are very anti-government in here, and criticisms of how the government operates are not only common but also widely appreciated and consumed. Most people land in crypto, I assume, because we get tired of the status quo and thus find it as a result of the escape attempt. It certainly happened to me, and I am sure my story is not unique.

At any rate, if I had one piece of advice for anyone staring at the screen repeating to themselves the lie “I have nothing to say,” it would be to shake off such silly notions. You are here, still kicking, still putting in the hours to feed yourself and your family, right? That means you are a story already.

There are things you have seen, people you have met, things you have learned, that unless you commit them to words, they will be forgotten.

So do yourself a favor and do not police yourself. Be you, be authentic, and just be.

I promise you… everyone has a story to tell…

Everyone has a story. All stories are worth hearing. Not all of them are interesting, but they're all worth something to someone. We would not be standing upon the graves of our ancestors without them having told their children stories, and those stories that have continued down the chain for thousands of years of humanity.

We pretend to know so much, but we know so little. We have story woven into everything we do know.
