Still Bullish: Why I’m Feeling Hopeful About Hive
In the past few weeks, I haven’t been my usual positive self. Yes, I too have those days, and that’s perfectly fine — I’m human. But since I want to close the week (or rather, welcome the weekend) on a positive note, I decided to write a list of reasons why I’m still bullish in the long term.

The Upcoming Hardfork
To some, it may seem like a nerdy thing — too nerdy to care about — but it brings important changes. For one, security will be tightened considerably. More importantly, it changes inflation (reducing it) and lays the foundation for Light Accounts, or Layer 2 accounts.
I’ve written at length about the need for simpler logins, so I won’t go back into that trench. But to me, this is probably the one thing that could truly skyrocket this place.
If you’ve been around the Trending Page lately, you’ve probably seen some announcements or even caught the Hive Fest panel discussing this very topic.
Freechain is Finally… Free?
Well, not quite yet — but practically so.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, prepare for something amazing. We, the community, own an incredible documentary about how Hive came into existence. It was shown at a Hive Fest long ago and has since been sitting on a shelf.
I won’t pretend I know how these things work, but I imagine there was enough red tape to wrap a semi-truck a few times over.
The Lord of Butter and Flies also has a post about this, which I highly recommend checking out. This is amazing news, people. It means, in no uncertain terms, that millions of eyes will soon be exposed to our story — and an influx of users should follow.
We need to be ready for that. Honestly, it’s long overdue. It’s hard to describe the frustration I feel when people tell me they’ve never heard of Hive but have heard of Steem. A slap in the face — no more.
DHF Actions
Some people are upset today, and I get it. If I were living in the States, having to fork out thousands every month just to keep a roof over my head, I’d probably be upset too.
I’m not saying this to be insensitive — it’s just that deep down, everyone knows this is the right move.
Yes, some people will have to tighten their belts, but that’s life. We’re in austerity mode, and if some of us have to eat canned beans, then maybe all of us should. That’s not madness — it’s prudence.
With that said, the “extreme” actions taken today are temporary. But they bring me some peace, and honestly, I like my peace.
New Exchanges
It’s well known that Hive is hard for the American market to access. There’s no direct way to buy it, and that creates friction. That said, this seems to be changing soon.
I can’t say much, but rest assured — it’s good stuff.
With Zypto recently joining the ecosystem and more exchanges on the way, it feels like the only direction left is up.
So Yeah, It’s Going to Get Better
And it’s not a matter of blind faith or some guy on the internet saying “trust me, bro.” It’s a conclusion we can reach by simply observing the actions we’re taking — as a community of passionate individuals.
In the end, we don’t have to agree on everything. We just have to agree on one thing:
We can all work together to make Hive thrive.
— MenO
Man it would be nice to have a few North American exchanges offering hive so that we didn’t have so sub to the sketchiest ones around the globe just to buy. Being in marketing and business consulting, if you want growth, be easy to deal with to start! Simple but it would work here too.
The only people really down right now are those desperate for immediate profit (or I guess some of those working in chain/app development being paid in hive!). Others are just snapping up the discount tokens while others are selling low!
Bullish long term and enjoying the ride.

just riding the waves, right?
Hardfork?
I've been a bit inactive, seems like a lot's been going on...
november 11th if im not mistaken.. thats right around the corner
One of the thing that I am trying to understand during this new HF is the voting limitation and how that would change the way curation works. As for the rest, it's a bit technical 😀 but I am excited that people are finally taking the DHF more seriously and attempting to approach it to be have some type of "business plan" / "revenue" minded instead being totally full "charity" mode.
I do not know how if curation is changing, I really don't think so. As far as I know its regarding DHF inflation (the changes), but im not entirely sure.
On your second point... spot on.
I'm still bullish on HIVE.
Light accounts — about freaking time. I've been posting about that and complaining about that the entire 8 years I've been posting here. I know no one wants to hear it, but we will never appeal to the masses with the complex key system. Fix it, and we open the doors to all the casual FB users who just want an easy signup and don't give two shits about keys or security or blockchain.
I must have missed what happened with the DHF. I see the return proposal is up to 50m and has knocked out several proposals. Good! I hope it goes up even higher.
the watchers got kicked out... that's causing a revolt of sorts
