A little over a week ago I was having a conversation with @chjavin about Hive, using HBD to buy things, and more specifically, the mechanics of using @distriator after making purchases. Keep in mind, my friend @chjavin is very much onboard these days, even helping me approach businesses himself, but his point made sense to me.

"I won't really bother doing a review for a tiny purchase. It makes no sense."

Maybe I am not remembering this exactly, maybe I am, but I think he then proceeded to buy from our favorite bakery with cash. Not really what I like to see, I have to confess. But of course, he can and should do as he pleases. At any rate, I went home, ruminated on this for a while, and began drafting an idea.

The truth is that where we live, it is not rare to make sub-dollar purchases every single day. We have personal sodas for 25 cents after all, and a "don't die yet" combo of two pan de yucas and a soda will set you back 75 cents. Listen, I am grateful my life here is affordable, do not get me wrong. If I was back in the US, I think I would be living under a bridge at this point, but regardless, my friend's observation overtook my brain for days on end.

Think about it. Does it make sense to write a review when you spend, let's say, 50 cents on a purchase? Maybe, but maybe not every single time. Maybe there are markets where this makes a lot of sense, and others where it just does not apply. But with all that said, I am making something for me, for the market I live in, for the people I talk to every single day.

Snap and Pay it is...

The name of the game is simplicity here. Little rewards for little efforts. What I am trying to accomplish with this whole thing is for it to always be better to use HBD, regardless of the size of the purchase. Yes, even if it is 10 cents for a single piece of bread.

Pay and Snap is really two steps for the buyer:

• After being logged in with your Hive keychain, scan the QR and confirm the payment.

• After the payment is confirmed, make a SNAP. Write a custom one (recommended) or use one from the drop menu. I will be adding more custom snaps with time and changing them out.

That is it. You are done.

Is that all?

No, here comes the back end, as they say. I have spent too many days screaming at my computer screen making what I am sure is the simplest Python bot a real developer could make.

This bot controls an account called @snapnpay, which is none other than @snapie's twin brother. This account will do two things:

Identify purchases being made to registered stores, with their respective snaps, and reply to them.

Send liquid rewards to Snapers using the system, if their actions qualify. (The account is not banned for abuse, the invoice is valid, and the store is registered.)

The reply from my little bot will be stored in a database where I can audit what is happening and who is using the service. More importantly, it allows me to go back and curate the micropayments myself. I think curation has to be manual to really nip abuse in the bud. Otherwise, a wise guy can get real wise, and thus, a close eye that has not blinked in years is needed.

So anyways, I think it is ready.

Today I took it out for a spin, if you will. I showed it to a few of my local friends, now Hiveans, and they seem to like the simplicity of the idea. I am biased, but I like the idea very much myself. And more importantly, I think it is going to close the gap a lot, really putting the question out there in bold letters: Why are you not using HBD?

What's next?

I am going to register the domain, maybe tomorrow, and spend a few days training people on how to use it. For now the rewards are tiered, like with distriator, but much simpler to understand. I am not trying to drive myself too crazy either. Also, I want to be able to teach people how to use this in less than five minutes.

After a week or two, or maybe even three, depending on how things go, I will open this up to the world, so to speak. For now, I will be the only one that can add stores and ban users, but I think that is fair since I am putting the money out of my own pocket to run this thing and push the needle in what I consider is the right direction.

I am sure I will be reporting from the trenches soon. But if you see some weird snaps showing up in your Snap feed, well, that is what is happening. Micro purchases on our blockchain have a place too, after all.

Tenemos gaseosas personales por 25 centavos, y un combo “no te mueras aún” de dos panes de yuca y una soda te cuesta 75 centavos. Escucha, agradezco que mi vida aquí sea asequible, no me malinterpretes. Si estuviera en Estados Unidos, creo que ya estaría viviendo bajo un puente a estas alturas, pero aún así, la observación de mi amigo me dio vueltas en la cabeza durante días.

Piensa en esto. ¿Tiene sentido escribir una reseña cuando gastas, digamos, 50 centavos en una compra? Tal vez sí, pero tal vez no cada vez. Snap and Pay es...

Aquí la clave es la simplicidad. Pequeñas recompensas por pequeños esfuerzos. Lo que intento lograr con todo esto es que siempre sea mejor usar HBD, sin importar el tamaño de la compra. Sí, incluso si son 10 centavos por un pedazo de pan.

Pay and Snap son realmente dos pasos para el comprador:

• Después de iniciar sesión con Hive Keychain, escanea el QR y confirma el pago.

• Después de confirmar el pago, haz un SNAP. Escribe uno personalizado (recomendado) o usa uno del menú desplegable. Con el tiempo iré agregando más snaps personalizados y cambiándolos.

No, aquí viene la parte del backend, como dicen. He pasado demasiados días gritándole a la pantalla de mi computadora haciendo lo que estoy seguro es el bot de Python más simple que un desarrollador real podría hacer.

Este bot controla una cuenta llamada @snapnpay, que no es otra que el hermano gemelo de @snapie. Esta cuenta hará dos cosas:

• Identificar las compras realizadas en tiendas registradas, con sus respectivos snaps, y responderlas.

• Enviar recompensas líquidas a los Snapers que usen el sistema, si sus acciones califican. (La cuenta no está baneada por abuso, la factura es válida y la tienda está registrada).

La respuesta de mi pequeño bot se almacenará en una base de datos, donde puedo auditar lo que está pasando y quién usa el servicio. Más importante aún, me permite volver y curar los micropagos yo mismo. Creo que la curaduría tiene que ser manual para frenar el abuso de raíz. De lo contrario, un “vivo” se vuelve muy vivo, y por eso se necesita un ojo atento que no ha parpadeado en años.

Así que bueno, creo que está listo.

Hoy lo probé, por así decirlo. Se lo mostré a algunos de mis amigos locales, ahora Hiveanos, y les gustó la simplicidad de la idea. Estoy sesgado, pero a mí también me gusta mucho. Y más importante aún, creo que va a cerrar mucho la brecha, poniendo realmente la pregunta allá afuera, en letras mayúsculas: ¿Por qué no estás usando HBD?

¿Qué sigue?

Voy a registrar el dominio, tal vez mañana, y pasaré unos días entrenando a la gente para usarlo. Por ahora las recompensas son escalonadas, como con distriator, pero mucho más fáciles de entender. Tampoco quiero volverme loco. Además, quiero poder enseñarle a alguien a usar esto en menos de cinco minutos.

Después de una o dos semanas, o tal vez tres, dependiendo de cómo vayan las cosas, abriré esto al mundo, por así decirlo. Por ahora, seré el único que puede agregar tiendas y banear usuarios, pero creo que es justo, ya que estoy poniendo el dinero de mi bolsillo para mover esto en la dirección que considero correcta.
