I’ve been spending four days now reading and learning about Python bots. One would think I’m about to break one of my rules (more humans please), but I do think there’s a way to use them properly.

The way I see it is this: gamifying things improves the experience. So I’m trying to see if I can come up with a little bot to do just that. I’m calling it a Hub bot for now, but the name is likely to change.

What is this little bot going to do? Am I going to spam everyone to death? Of course not. As a matter of fact, I hope nobody started pearl clutching prematurely after the first two lines of this blog entry.

The Hub bot would basically nudge, if you will, members of the Hive Ecuador community to do a little more. It’s a way for members to quickly see, with just a few clicks, how Hive Ecuador is growing and how its members are participating.

I’m trying to learn how to make graphics and found a library that can help with that. Who knows, maybe I can pull it off, maybe I can’t, but it seems needed to me.

And hey, since I’m already going to be paying a little bit to Linode to host another bot for onboarding, might as well try to get more juice out of the fruit, if you will. As far as I can tell, and from what Grok tells me, since the bot would do these reports once a day, I should be fine. It’s not going to be making a thousand API calls all day, that’s for sure.

At any rate, it’s getting late, and although today was a day of learning, it’s also been a day of pain. I’m still feeling it. This morning I fell ill after eating a soup, and the rest of the day felt like my head was not attached correctly.

I’m sure tomorrow I’ll be back in the saddle with a little more brain power available to learn some more.

He pasado ya cuatro días leyendo y aprendiendo sobre bots en Python. Uno pensaría que estoy a punto de romper una de mis reglas (más humanos, por favor), pero sí creo que hay una manera de usarlos bien.

Así lo veo yo: gamificar las cosas mejora la experiencia. Por eso estoy viendo si puedo crear un pequeño bot para lograrlo. Por ahora lo llamo Hub bot, pero seguramente el nombre cambiará.

¿Qué va a hacer este pequeño bot? ¿Voy a spamear a todos hasta la muerte? Por supuesto que no. De hecho, espero que nadie haya empezado a retorcerse de preocupación después de las dos primeras líneas de esta entrada.

El Hub bot básicamente daría un empujoncito, por decirlo así, a los miembros de la comunidad Hive Ecuador para que hagan un poco más. Sería una manera para que los miembros vean rápidamente, con solo unos clics, cómo está creciendo Hive Ecuador y cómo están participando sus miembros.

Estoy tratando de aprender a hacer gráficos y encontré una librería que me puede ayudar con eso. Quién sabe, tal vez lo logre, tal vez no, pero me parece necesario.

Y bueno, ya que de todas formas voy a pagar un poco a Linode para alojar otro bot de onboarding, pues mejor sacarle más jugo al fruto, si se quiere. Según veo, y según me dice Grok, como este bot haría los reportes una vez al día, debería estar bien. No va a estar haciendo mil llamadas a la API todo el día, eso seguro.

En fin, ya es tarde y aunque hoy fue un día de aprendizaje, también fue un día de dolor. Todavía lo siento. Esta mañana me enfermé después de comerme una sopa, y el resto del día sentí como si la cabeza no estuviera bien sujeta al cuerpo.

Seguro mañana estaré de vuelta en la silla con un poco más de capacidad mental para seguir aprendiendo.
