Manglaralto Hub: Building Ecuador’s Quiet Financial Revolution (Eng/Esp)
It’s obvious to anyone looking into the numbers that we have a long way to go to create the economic hub of our dreams. But with that said, it’s becoming a reality more and more every single day.
One of the features available to me on Distriator is the ability to pull up some charts, see how stores are performing, and observe how markets are doing. It’s pretty amazing to watch the growth of HBD businesses in places like Nigeria, especially over the last few months. But I have to say, and I say this with a smile on my face, Ecuador, the place where I live, is beginning to make some noise.
Just last week, our local supermarket put up some impressive numbers. In their first week accepting HBD, they’ve already hit an impressive $266 buckaroos. Which means, if growth continues at this pace, we are likely to close the month just under a grand, which would be, unironically, grand.
This sort of thing truly puts a smile on my face. As of today, we have 11 small businesses here locally accepting HBD as a currency. Some days I feel like things are happening too slowly, but then again, I started really focusing on this in May, so, am I really moving that slow?
So what’s the target, the real number I want to be able to hit? I want to say I would like for two things to happen, and I’m pretty sure I can make them happen if I focus and find the right people, the right allies to help me. I want for Manglaralto Hub, as I’m calling it, to be an anomaly around these parts. If we can reach 30 stores and 200 people signed up using HBD, then I think Manglaralto will begin raising eyebrows.
I can totally picture people asking themselves why Manglaralto seems to do better, even in the slow season. I would love for that question, that fire of curiosity, to drive people into digging, into asking, and then learning about our peaceful financial revolution. Logic would dictate that someone discovering our trick, so to speak, would be quite easy to convince to join.
I’m thinking it makes the most sense to focus mainly on our little town, because Hive, sadly I would say, is still too difficult for the average person. And thus, I have to be able to guide people a lot, especially during the first weeks. Once they get it, once we can remove the training wheels from the bike, then I can begin to peel off, but it’s important that they know I’m here.
As a matter of fact, I’m careful about onboarding businesses too fast, more so than people. Because they have the most questions, and I would argue, have more reasons to fear the unknown. The questions of “is this real?” hit a lot heavier when you’ve got payroll to meet.
At any rate, I do have two more leads, if you will. One is a breakfast joint called Sol Bolón, a favorite of my cousins, and another is the local gym I mentioned in another blog. That said, I think I will spend another week doing more training with Leo and the boys before moving on to another business. Making sure people don’t get nervous requires a lot of presence, as far as I can tell.
I’m going to make a bold prediction here, and hopefully I won’t put my foot in my mouth. I don’t think Ecuador is ever going to beat Nigeria per se, but I won’t settle for anything but second place on Distriator’s charts, that’s for sure. So I hope to close the year reporting that the Ecuadorian Hivers are kicking so much butt that they are giving the Nigerian Hivers a run for their money.
Can we pull it off? I don’t know… But I’m sure going to give it all I got.

All of these markets, I feel, are not entirely dominated by large multi-national chains where even a street food vendor, or corner store is owned by some big corporate. They still have the "mum and pop" type stores, which leads to things like "alternate" payment methods to be a possibility.
Those businesses can accept hive and hbd, because, well, "they get it". But I can't see it happening on a large scale in more developed economies. There's too much regulation, too much risk, too many complicated and and unfavourable tax structures.
I would love to accept HBD and HIVE for my photography business, if only my clients had ever heard of it ;)

hey brother, well... it starts with one business, it can start with you. If you offer discounts for payments done with HBD, then you got the perfect excuse to onboard someone. Everyone likes discounts. (distriator would be handing them out, not you.. the discounts, I mean)
Genial...
How to see these charts ? Curious which business in India started accepting HBD, I have not been successful yet even after trying to convince multiple businesses, they fear that the Income Tax will notice them and will check all their records creating trouble for them.
hey Sanjeevm well, if you go to distriator.com login with keychain and go under businesses. You can search by location. There seems to be a few in india already. But, i hear you, everyone fears the tax man. I just tell them the risks, but tell them that every single time they take cash and do not declare, they do the same thing.
