HiveAuth: little battles that count
I know some dev out there—probably one with a scar under his left eye—is going to read this and chuckle. After all, I haven’t achieved anything earth-shattering, so technically, there’s nothing to celebrate. But hey, let me enjoy my little win, alright?
I’ve been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to integrate HiveAuth into a React Native app. I won’t bore the non-devs who follow my ramblings with too much technical jargon, but let’s just say it’s not as straightforward as I first imagined.
Here’s the deal: HiveAuth works beautifully if you’re using two devices—for example, logging into PeakD on a laptop and then authenticating with your phone. But running an app on your phone and using HiveAuth on that very same phone? That’s a steep climb for little ol’ me.
That said, I suspect someone else will eventually face this same mountain. Someone like me—someone who, let’s be honest, still has a long way to go before they can call themselves truly competent (big thanks to my brother for the assists these past months). Well, this post is for that hypothetical someone. An olive branch of sorts.

You have no idea how happy it made me to see this screen. It worked. I logged into my app—which, by the way, does nothing except post a custom JSON—without ever entering my keys. It felt like I defeated a Pokémon… though definitely one of the ugly ones.

Anyway, I’ll leave my repo linked in this post. It’s public, of course, in case anyone else might benefit from this little experiment one day too.

We need all this stuff documented so that others can build on Hive. They need to use the secure systems to protect their users. I hope you are making good progress.

To be honest, lots of the documentation on hive.io needs to be improved imho... its just so much work, most of us feel overwhelmed. But these little nuggets might help a lost soul one day.
Maybe this is something where AI could be useful to extract API details.
you know... I've not given it a try. Dunno if a free tier can do it. I'm gonna see if grok or Gemini can too.
