All these years later, still, there are people who in fear ask me if I’m not afraid of the government stopping this whole crypto thing. “You’ll be stuck with worthless tokens,” they say. My answer has always been: How would they stop me?

More than a month ago I was writing about my philosophy regarding cryptocurrencies. I’m not asking for permission to be free; I take my freedom with my own hands. But with that said, it’s amazing to see other people, powerful and influential people, elevating that peaceful revolutionary spirit to the highest echelons.

This morning, even before the first sip of coffee jump-started my brain, I came across some really interesting news. Turns out Jack Dorsey, yes, the Twitter guy, has released a new app that allows people to transact bitcoins without Internet. This made me chuckle, because I remember telling “the fearfuls” they would have to turn off the internet to stop me, and it seems like in the very near future, not even that would work.

A secure mesh chat running on Bluetooth. All devices today use Bluetooth, and there’s never a device too far from another, so you can clearly imagine how the proximity and a necessary mass adoption (if the worst were to happen) would simply render the oppressive government toothless yet again. I would say it takes the last tooth from its mouth.

If you think it sounds too good to be true, well, it’s not. Mesh technologies have been around for a while, and they’ve been used in dire war-type situations to keep communications alive. I just never thought of it as an economic freeway, but here we are.

The app, Bitchat, is only available on TestFlight for iOS, but I’m sure the downloads are in the millions, and you or I attempting to get into “beta testing” is going to be a no-go.

That said, this is exciting. This is amazing. If that doesn’t quiet the storm inside your doubtful heart, I think nothing will.

Todos estos años después, todavía hay personas que, con miedo, me preguntan si no temo que el gobierno detenga todo este asunto de las criptos. “Te vas a quedar con tokens sin valor”, dicen. Mi respuesta siempre ha sido: ¿Cómo me detendrían?

Hace más de un mes estaba escribiendo sobre mi filosofía respecto a las criptomonedas. No estoy pidiendo permiso para ser libre; tomo mi libertad con mis propias manos. Pero dicho eso, es increíble ver a otras personas, personas poderosas e influyentes, elevar ese espíritu revolucionario pacífico a los más altos niveles.

Esta mañana, incluso antes de que el primer sorbo de café encendiera mi cerebro, me encontré con una noticia muy interesante. Resulta que Jack Dorsey, sí, el tipo de Twitter, ha lanzado una nueva app que permite a la gente transaccionar bitcoins sin Internet. Esto me hizo reír, porque recuerdo haberle dicho a “los temerosos” que tendrían que apagar el Internet para detenerme, y parece que en un futuro muy cercano, ni siquiera eso funcionaría.

Un chat seguro en malla que funciona con Bluetooth. Todos los dispositivos hoy usan Bluetooth, y nunca hay un dispositivo demasiado lejos de otro, así que puedes imaginarte cómo la proximidad y una adopción masiva necesaria (si pasara lo peor) simplemente dejarían al gobierno opresivo sin dientes nuevamente. Yo diría que le saca el último diente de la boca.

Si crees que suena demasiado bueno para ser verdad, bueno, no lo es. Las tecnologías de malla existen desde hace tiempo y se han usado en situaciones de guerra muy difíciles para mantener las comunicaciones vivas. Solo que nunca lo pensé como una autopista económica, pero aquí estamos.

Dicho eso, esto es emocionante. Esto es increíble. Si eso no calma la tormenta dentro de tu corazón lleno de dudas, creo que nada lo hará.
