A dead man switch (ENG/ESP)

It almost seems like I have to be lying, but the truth is a lot more interesting than fiction. For years now, possibly since 2019, I have been thinking a lot about what happens to the tokens I have accumulated if something happens to me. I think this fear of mine is rational, and so I was hoping that at some point in time a solution would come about, but alas, as far as I know, there is nothing out there yet.

What am I talking about? I hear you asking. Well. How can I put this kindly?

We are all going to die. Some of us a long time from now, some of us maybe soon. This is something we cannot truly control, and as ugly as it might be to think about these things, it makes sense to do so. I want to make sure my family, my loved ones, do not have to carry the burden of my demise by themselves. And somewhere in the back of my head, there is this voice that says, “What about a legacy?”

At any rate, I began writing an idea down at least seven years ago. A dead man trigger of sorts. A decentralized system that would verify if someone is still alive and well, and if not, would execute a series of commands to ensure a digital will is carried out. I happen to find value in such a thing, and although I have written about it before on this very blog, I have gotten little to no traction on those conversations.

Now, why am I bringing this up again? Why today? Without giving names, this thought always comes back to me when I hear of the passing of someone I know. Death, you see, is never too far away from us, even though we love to pretend it could never come visit.

I guess you could say that this morning, while fueled by some stale coffee, I have taken it upon myself to write out this probe.

Is this not something you would like to have? A way to maybe say goodbye if something happened, to gift someone your keys, to ensure a digital legacy of sorts remains alive?

Such a project would take a lot of effort to do, and I may still do it, even if nobody is interested. But it is almost as if I refuse to think I am the only one who thinks about these things.

Our move?
🔹 Unite voices: Use #bilpcoin or #bpc to highlight censorship & demand accountability.
🔹 Document abuse: Share evidence of unfair downvotes, self-voting scams, and double standards.
🔹 Push for reform: Advocate for transparent governance, vote caps, and community-driven rules.

Decentralization isn’t just a feature—it’s a fight. Let’s model fairness, rally allies, and pressure Hive to live up to its ideals.

A digital will is pretty interesting, especially for those of us who’ve watched loved ones struggle with lost passwords and locked accounts. I'm thinking about how often the system would need to check in on me

it would have to be configurable, for sure...

every 3 months, every 6 months... every year...

A pretty good system I must say

You know, in the beginning, it wouldn’t have mattered or been worth it. Now, I have amassed 10k worth of stake and saving and I bet my family would like to have access to that and know how to use it when my inevitable heart attack happens! ;)

I suppose it is as easy as documenting keys and a short tutorial on what to do. I bet that tutorial would get pretty damn long for people who are not familiar with block chain and exchanges!

Maybe it could be a metamask or Hive keychain functionality? That is a password (easier than keys) interface?

Good thinking.

Bitwarden (free & open source password manager) has a feature which can act as a "dead man's switch", called emergency access, if you upgrade fromm free plan ($10 per year). Actually you only need to pay for one year to be able to set it up, so as long as the contact detail of the person(s) you wish to give access to your password manager remain the same.
