Drone Flying at Mammoth Mountain, CA [EN/PT-BR]

I went to Mammoth Lakes this last weekend to go snowboarding with my son and I took my drone (DJI Mini 4 pro) with me. I did some long flights, and I took a lot of pictures. I'm still trying to figure out how to write this post. I already know that I will need to split this adventure in more then one post, so it doesn't get too long. After selecting the pictures I liked the most, I'm left with over 60 pictures and that is why I think I need to split this into separate posts.

Including everything I got 3 different mountain ranges, and almost all of the lakes in the Lakes Basin.

I think I will start this post, as the title says, with Mammoth Mountain, the ski resort. This time I will try to describe some of the pictures separately. Mammoth is a huge mountain, and I took pictures most of the pictures from the south east to south west side of the Mountain, these are the areas I could reach from my take off point. There are 3 lodges (Main, Canyon and Eagle), so in this first picture above you can see Canyon Lodge, that is the lodge right in the middle of Main and Eagle. I couldn't reach Main lodge from where I was and I will have some pictures of Eagle to show.

In the next pictures you will see a little more of Canyon Lodge and the views from there.

Fui para Mammoth Lakes no último fim de semana para andar de snowboard com meu filho e levei meu drone (DJI Mini 4 pro) comigo. Fiz alguns voos longos e tirei muitas fotos. Ainda estou tentando entender como vou escrever este post. Já sei que vou precisar dividir essa aventura em mais de um post, para que não fique muito longo. Depois de selecionar as fotos que mais gostei, fiquei com mais de 60 fotos, e é por isso que acho que preciso dividir em mais de um post.

Incluindo tudo, fotografei 3 cadeias de montanhas diferentes e quase todos os lagos da região.

Acho que vou começar esse post, como diz o título, com Mammoth Mountain, a estação de esqui. Desta vez, tentarei descrever algumas das fotos separadamente. Mammoth é uma montanha enorme, e tirei a maioria das fotos do lado sudeste a sudoeste da montanha, que são as áreas que pude alcançar a partir do meu ponto de decolagem. Existem 3 estações (Main, Canyon e Eagle), portanto, na primeira foto acima, você pode ver o Canyon Lodge, que é a estação bem no meio do Main e do Eagle. Não consegui chegar ao Main Lodge de onde eu estava mas terei algumas fotos do Eagle para mostrar mais adiante.

Nas próximas fotos, você verá um pouco mais do Canyon Lodge e as vistas de lá.

Now moving west from Canyon Lodge we will get closer to Eagle Lodge, let's check out some pictures from this point of view.

Agora, indo para o oeste do Canyon Lodge, chegaremos mais perto do Eagle Lodge. Vamos ver algumas fotos desse ponto de vista.

Now still going west and around the mountain, we can see chair 9 aka Cloud Nine Express. This lift doesn't have access by car, you have to ski there. Also in the last pictures and the next ones, you can see all the way in the back, the famous Minarets. It's a little too far to see, but it's those sharp rocks in the far back.

Agora, ainda indo para o oeste e contornando a montanha, podemos ver a teleférico 9, também conhecido como Cloud Nine Express. Este teleférico não tem acesso de carro, voce precisa ir esquiando até lá. Também podemos ver nas últimas fotos e nas próximas, os famosos Minarets. Esta um pouco distante para ver, mas são aquelas rochas pontiagudas lá longe.

Now if you look at this last picture above, everything on the other side of that ridge on the left is out of bounds. This means that everything on that side is not controlled by the resort. We call that the backside of Mammoth, and I will keep going that way to show a little bit of that side in the next pictures.

Agora, se você observar a última foto acima, tudo o que está do outro lado do cume à esquerda está fora dos limites do resort. Isso significa que tudo naquele lado não é controlado pelo resort. Chamamos aquela área de backside de Mammoth, e continuarei indo nessa direção para mostrar um pouco do lado de trás da montanha nas próximas fotos.

When you go down to the backside of Mammoth, there is a very famous and interesting spot. It's called "Hole in the wall", and it's a natural tunnel in the rock that is possible to ski thru it. It's not easy to get there, the drop in is pretty steep and sketchy, and with fresh snow there is a risk of avalanche. I have seen a friend get caught in an avalanche there 25 years ago and he luckily got away with no injuries.
As I said, the backside is out of bounds, so you can go there at your own risk, and it is dangerous. If you want to go, better go with someone that knows the area. After going thru hole in the wall, you get to Twin Lakes.

Quando você desce para a parte de trás de Mammoth, há um ponto muito famoso e interessante. Chama-se “Hole in the wall” e é um túnel natural na rocha pelo qual é possível passar esquiando por dentro. Não é fácil chegar lá, a entrada (drop inicial) é bastante íngreme e complicado e, com neve fresca, há risco de avalanche. Vi um amigo ser pego em uma avalanche lá 25 anos atras e, felizmente, ele escapou sem ferimentos.
Como eu disse, a parte de trás está fora dos limites, portanto, você vai por sua própria conta e risco, e é perigoso. Se você quiser ir, é melhor ir com alguém que conheça a área. Depois de passar pelo hole in the wall, você chega aos Twin Lakes (Lagos Gemeos)
