A Juiced lesson
The universe does not carry debts. It always returns back to you what you gave it.
It was just my mom and I at home. My dad had traveled to work, my sisters and brother had resumed their boarding school. I liked having the house to my self, I wasn't that bored because I had resumed school too, so I went to school as my mom went to work every morning. She usually returned earlier than I did.
That day I had finished preparing for school and was ready to leave.
"I just received a text from your school" my mom said.
"What did it say?"I replied.
"You will not be having any classes today. They would be having their teachers annual meeting" she replied.
I was thrilled; it meant no school for me today. Who didn't love holidays even if it was just for a day.
My mom was ready to leave for work."Joshua!" She called me to come. I wondered if my mom was the only one who yelled so loudly that the neighbors could hear.
"I would be leaving now, you have had your breakfast so make sure you clean up the house. And since you are not going to school today arrange that your room."
"Okay mom"
"Make sure all these are done before I come back from work. I don't want to see this house scattered when I return. There is bread, tea and noodles in case you get hungry. Although I will be back before 12 noon"
"Okay mom", I responded while taking off my uniform.
"Take care of yourself, and if anything happens don't hesitate or fail to call me", My parents got me a small phone for contacting them because I was often alone at home.
"Okay mom" I answered as I threw myself on the couch, thinking of the movie I would start my day with.
"Alright goodbye, see you later" my mom said as she left.
Immediately she left I commenced with my plan for the day. Which was watching movie through out the day.
It wasn't long after when the power went off.
"No!!" I screamed as the power went off, the movie was just getting hot.
After some time of singing, drawing, and kicking my football around the house, an idea came to me. My mom had bought oranges, lots of oranges the previous weekend. So I decided to make orange juice with them. I cut them, squeezed out the juice into a cup, and put it in the fridge to chill. My mom later got home when I was asleep. Later that evening my mom was preparing dinner in the kitchen while I was in my room playing video games with her phone.
"Joshua!" I heard my mom yell my name, 'what have I done this time' I asked myself. My mom always shouted my name, but I knew the difference between when she called me and when I had done something.
I hurried out and found her standing in front of the fridge.
"What is this" she asked as she opened the fridge.
"Oh, it is orange juice I made" I answered.
"And you thought it okay to keep it inside a cup. What if it spills?" She asked me.
"It won't pour, I will transfer it into a bottle later", my mind wasn't there, my mind was in my room with the video game I was playing.
"Make sure you remove it, because I don't want anything pouring in my fridge"
"Okay, I will" I said as I hurried back to my game.
Later that night, I was about to bring out my book and do an assignment that was given in class when my mom called me.
When I went to answer her, she was just standing with her hands on her waist, she was fuming. She was holding a rag and there were two buckets, one with detergent and water in it and the other with clean water.
"Take" she said as she handed the rag to me, "make sure you clean the fridge and it is sparkling by tomorrow morning". Then she went inside to sleep. I had an assignment to do but couldn't tell her. She would get angrier than she was, because I had the whole day and still didn't do my assignment.
I felt like crying. I regretted not listening to her. If I had done what she said immediately, the juice wouldn't have spilled. After I finished cleaning the fridge I was exhausted and went straight to sleep.
The next day I went to school. And when it was time to submit the assignment, it was then that I remembered that I was supposed to do it before sleeping but had forgotten after cleaning the fridge. The punishment I received for not doing my assignment felt more like a punishment for not listening to my mom. That day I faced life's music.
Thanks for reading.
You paint a sympathetic portrait of a young man who is irresponsible, but not 'bad'. His forgetting the assignment is quite typical of that age, and putting a cup full of orange juice in the refrigerator also typical. The good thing about each of these mistakes is that you learned from them. You are not likely to put such a cup in the refrigerator again and probably will be more inclined to do your assignments--all because you "faced life's music".
Thank you for sharing this experience with us, @menace123.
Thank you for visiting my post, and it was nice sharing my experience with you.
I felt pity for you but then we all did this at one point or the other in our lives. Sorry for the punishment.
Yes this is a stage in life we go through.
😂😂😂
Aren’t all of us like that when we were kids.
I think something similar happened to me when I was little too.
I can’t even remember the excuse I gave to the teacher when I was asked for my assignments.
It was fun being a kid but I’m sure your day wasn’t fun after getting punished for not doing your assignment 😂
😂😂we had very wonderful days as kids
Yeah😂😂
I seem to remember similar things happening to me when I was a teenager. It's just that we are in another world.
Thanks for sharing your story.
