The Price: Being in the dark for another's light.

Good morning my thoughtful daily posters. How are y'all doing. This week's prompt is just about compassion. And also all about paying a price and sacrifice. As at 80 years old, my sight has served me very well, I have been lucky to see the sunrise and the sunset as well. I've watched my children grow and their young ones running around. And I've also been lucky to see how beautiful the world is all round for whole 80 years....thats almost a century. At 80, from experience with ny grandparents and other older people, some of them even get tired of life and then at that point I'm given the choice to give my sight to a newborn who has never had the chance to see, I would do it without even thinking twice.

By 80, I have lived not only a full life but a fulfilled life. I've had fun memories, I've seen days of joy, days of sorrow. If I go blind, it wouldn't be strange but it would be the exact same thing as existing with eyes because the world isn't new to me. It might be difficult at first but I'll certainly get used to it. I can still be part of conversations, still listen to my favorite songs, feel the warmth of the sun and the warmth of those I love, I could still do my favorite things but the little one has not yet explored life. Moreover, I'm counting my days on the earth, so it wouldn't be a very great loss that will make my life not useful or meaningless.

For the child and it's parents, this gift would be everything for them. Imagine the child opening it's eyes seeing his or her parents face for the first time. The sun, the colors everywhere, nature, everything beautiful there to see, or when the child start's reading.

There are some that might argue about that amount of sacrifice without personal benefit is foolish, but for me I see it differently. Being genuinely generous is you you giving without expecting anything in return. Giving a child such irreplaceable gift is more than enough, infact I count it as my final gift of love to humanity, and it's also a medium of impact, a way of remembrance. Just like I said, it would be difficult at first. Imagine not being able to see the faces of those you love so much.

So yes, I would give my sight away. I giving it away is not because I have to but I'm giving it because I can. The popular hymn says

Only remembered, only remembered,
Only remembered by what we have done;
Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling,
Only remembered by what we have done. Source

@melove...

Hello! You've obviously put a lot of thinking into this week's prompt. I'd kindly remind you to always share the sources of any works, songs, or in this case... hymns. When we create content on our blockchain. We should have the mindset of 100% originality... Yes? With the possibility of being rewarded (paid)... the use of others works without said sourcing is considered theft/plagiarism/stealing.

Here would be one way to accomplish this...

Only remembered, only remembered, Only remembered by what we have done; Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling, Only remembered by what we have done.
