Social media and Mental Health: The Impacts.

When we talk about mental health and social media, its an issue that reflects it's positive side and negative side and yes I will be talking about the two. The way the world is going and how the social media world is having this high influence now, it's important that attention be drawn to it , to research on the effects it has psychologically on human beings.
Social media we know is a lot, as a content creator I have seen a lot happening there but we shouldn't exclude the positive impacts.
Social media firstly has brought me connections. I mean lots of connection. Personally and through communities, I have learnt to be free and express myself because there were times I used yo feel alone and was also isolated and it affected my mental health badly, but then I connected with communities and people's experiences that were shared helped go a very long way.
During my down times because of the stress I went through in school, it affected me so much and I read books, I was strictly warned to stay out of social media but the activities I was asked to do werent helping, I logged in one day to Twitter now X, and there was an awareness that was raised about what was happening to me. They held campaigns, encouraging people going through stuffs like this to seek help. Sometimes we hear stories were people were about to end it but after a push to login to their social media platforms, they weren't convinced to end life again.
I know that social media has pushed a lot to commit suicide but I can say it has also helped pushed a lot back from ending their lives.
Let's look at how they affect humans negatively.
People are raised from different backgrounds and tes have have different ideas about a lot of things and these things don't stop with them, they share it on the internet which may reach millions of viewers around the world and when things like this are constantly dropped, very unhealthy comparisons start to set in and people become anxious and even depressed because of what they see. Some people gather enemies from social media, a lot become envious and then the pressure that is theyr can make people feel so low of themselves, all this is really affect one's mental health.
One thing that made me leave social media for a time was the bullying. That thing drained me, and so many people go through it. Some people are either abused or harassed online and it has become so common and noemal on our social media platforms, some people are dragged by bloggers over false stories and trust me it doesn't end emotionally well for the victims. People have suicidal thoughts, some become depressed, I even saw a friend that went mad for sometime because of just a comment. Social media doesn't care about the things that leaves online to follow you to your offline life, how depressing it can be.
Social media is one thing that has become addictive especially in our time. The excessive use of it is something else. The time we all spend on this platform is crazy and I'm not excluded and it sure affects our mental health. We can't go to bed at the usual time anymore, we stay past bed time, we don't even have time for physical relationships anymore or interacting with the people around us, we are always on the phone and yes it causes ine to feel lonely which might eventually lead fo loneliness.
For you to have a balanced mental health and avoid issues, it's important to set boundaries especially on the use of social media and then what we watch and see on our feeds matter a lot, go for more positive things.
