Hoy no me tocó trabajar y decidí no quedarme en casa. En la mañana llamé a una amiga y acordamos vernos para dar una vuelta por el Centro. Estamos en septiembre y este es el mes patrio aquí en México, pues el día de la independencia del país fue el 16 de septiembre.

Today I didn’t have to work and I decided not to stay home. In the morning, I called a friend and we agreed to meet up for a stroll around the Center.
We’re in September, and this is the patriotic month here in Mexico, since the country’s Independence Day was on September 16th.

Desde que inicia el mes ya se aprecian los primeros indicios de celebración. Los carros cuelgan banderitas con la bandera mexicana y otros incluso adaptan la bandera grande al frente del carro.

From the start of the month, you can already see the first signs of celebration. Cars hang little flags with the Mexican flag, and others even attach a large flag to the front of the car

Comienzan las ventas de artículos como cintas del cabello con los colores rojo, verde y blanco, asimismo pulóveres, muchos de los cuales tienen el característico “Viva México” y así otros muchos artículos y prendas. En mi colonia colocaron cadenetas decorativas con esos colores en todos los alumbrados y en la entrada del fraccionamiento

Sales begin for items like hair ribbons in the colors red, green, and white, as well as pullovers, many of which feature the characteristic “Viva México,” and so on with many other articles and garments. In my neighborhood, they hung decorative streamers in those colors on all the streetlights and at the entrance to the subdivision.

Yo imaginaba que el centro de la ciudad debía estar más lindo aún y sí fue. Aún pasada la fecha siguen los adornos, en especial en el parque central y los alrededores. Aproveché para fotografiarlos y posar para unas bonitas fotos.

I imagined that the city center must be even prettier, and yes, it was. Even after the date has passed, the decorations remain, especially in the central park and the surrounding areas. I took the opportunity to photograph them and pose for some nice photos.

Me gustó mucho ver todos los adornos y lo orgullosos que están los mexicanos de su país y su bandera, la cual me parece muy bonita y me encantan sus colores vivos.
Investigando un poco descubrí que el verde simboliza la esperanza en el futuro del país, el blanco representa la unidad del pueblo mexicano y la pureza de sus ideales y el rojo conmemora la sangre derramada por los héroes nacionales en las luchas por la Independencia. Sin embargo, ese no fue su significado inicial. En 1821 los colores se asociaron con las “tres garantías”: Blanco: Religión católica. Verde: Independencia de España. Rojo: Unión entre mexicanos y españoles.

I really enjoyed seeing all the decorations and how proud Mexicans are of their country and their flag, which I think is very beautiful, and I love its vibrant colors.
After doing a little research, I discovered that the green symbolizes hope in the country’s future, the white represents the unity of the Mexican people and the purity of their ideals, and the red commemorates the blood shed by national heroes in the struggles for Independence. However, that wasn’t its initial meaning. In 1821, the colors were associated with the “three guarantees”:
White: Catholic religion.
Green: Independence from Spain.
Red: Union between Mexicans and Spaniards.

Fue a mediados del siglo XIX, con el cambio de gobierno y la separación iglesia-estado, que el significado se modificó para reflejar la nueva realidad del país.

It was in the mid-19th century, with the change in government and the separation of church and state, that the meaning was modified to reflect the country’s new reality.
