The Cat in the Hat's Umbrella

Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat movie was released in theaters in Nov. 2003. The film was a box-office disappointment, critics and audiences alike were not happy with the humor, screenplay, performances and unfaithfulness to the 1957 Dr. SUESS book.

Watching the cupcake scene in the YouTube film clip that I shared above makes me glad I never wasted my time watching the movie! I don't think it was intended for my generation, but I also don't think it was necessarily intended for children!

In the kitchen scene, The Cat, played by Mike Meyers, is in the kitchen baking cupcakes using the KupKake-inator which is presented as an "amazing" kitchen device that can make cupcakes out of anything—whether it's edible or not.
The "recipe" involves placing ridiculous items into the machine, such as:
A fire extinguisher
Ketchup
A pack of hot dogs
and putting the entire machine into the oven to bake.

When the oven explodes, the Cat produces an umbrella to shield himself from the purple gooey mess.

When props from the movie were being sold my grandson purchased the movie umbrella and intends to have it framed along with the certificate of authentication. Since he has his own income neither his mother or I felt we should ask what he paid for it!

Have you seen the movie?

You mentioned a very old picture where laughter, happiness and disappointment are mixed. I still love looking at old pictures. In them, there is sweetness, education and joy filled with laughter and happiness.

The idea of buying the umbrella made me laugh!

If the clip was a true testimony of the rest of the film, I'm glad I didn't see it either.
