Sky watching

It has been a wonderful week for capturing sky photos!

The second supermoon of the year occured on September 17 and September 18th. My kids got some great photos of the Harvest Moon from their city balcony.

Seen between the buildings in the city

And between the branches of the white pine in the backyard in Wisconsin

What sets this supermoon apart from others is the fact that it is also a partial lunar eclipse.

This is a photo of the early morning moon. You can see the sunrise reflected in the building behind the boat masts.

You’re likely familiar with the prehistoric boulder formation in Wiltshire, England. During the summer and winter solstice, the sun rises behind Stonehenge’s Heel Stone, where its rays are captured within the rock frame, creating a glorious spectacle that thousands of people flock to witness.

This is Chicagohenge! Because the city streets are aligned north and south in a grid pattern, the spring and autumn equinoxes line up and light the city streets. The equinox occurs on September 22nd, but already the sun is lighting up the city.

It's been a fun week to watch the sky!

Wow! So much wonderment on those photos and a wonderful storytelling as well. Thanks for sharing us the supermoon because we don't have a clear sky at my end at the moment. Always raining...
