Evening photos of Lake Michigan with temperatures of 0°Fahrenheit

When I post photos of Lake Michigan I am often asked if you can see across the lake to the far shoreline. The answer is no.

Lake Michigan is 307 mi (494 km) long and with 307 mi (494 km)
Max. width and 118 mi (190 km)
Min. width.
The Max. depth is
923 ft (281 m)

It's a really big lake! Once, on a whim, my daughter and a college friend decided to drive around the lake. It turned into a much bigger adventure than they anticipated! The drive is roughly 1,100 miles long and takes around 17 hours with no stops. They ended up needing to call home for gas and food money. At least they learned the value of trip planning!

The Great Lakes, also called the Great Lakes of North America, are a series of large interconnected freshwater lakes spanning the Canada–United States border. The five lakes are Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario. The Great Lakes Waterway enables modern travel and shipping by water among the lakes.
Wikipedia

The Great Lakes hold about one-fifth of the world’s fresh surface water supply.

This week the news has shown The Manitoulin, a 663-foot (202-meter) Canadian vessel that was stuck in the ice on Lake Erie after it dropped off a load of wheat in Buffalo, New York. There were 17 people on board. With the assistance of Coast Guard ice breakers it was freed three days later and resumed travel back to Canada.

The sun was going down in the west and casting a pink glow on the clouds out over the lake. Photos and video were taken with a Google Pixel phone.

Wind and waves at these freezing temperatures cause more ice to build along the shore.

It was incredible information about the lake. It was a thrilling adventure to take a drive around the lake in such a challenging condition. This kind of adventure also teaches us that we can learn a lot even when we take on the challenge of traveling to discover and enjoy something. Pictures and videos captured with the Google Pixel have provided us with beautiful, vibrant images and videos. Thank you.

Does the lake freeze too?

I found this-
Lake Michigan has never completely frozen over since the 1800s.
The lake has been covered by more than 90% ice five times, including in 1978–1979 and 2013–2014.

I love when the big lakes get this type of thing going on! It’s been super cold here, I can imagine what the bigger lakes are like. Maybe I’ll go visit some of them with my son in a week or two to check out the ice. There’s nothing like the Great Lakes though in terms of frigid temps.

We haven't had any decent snowfall yet this winter. Only cold temps. I'm still hoping to get snowed in!

As much as I love cold water swimming, that's far too cold for me! My uncle surfed the great lake once, many decades ago. i presume it was a crazy wind swell! How warm does it get in the summer/

I found this. The warmest water temperature is in August with an average around 70.5°F / 21.4°C. The coldest month is February with an average water temperature of 36.9°F / 2.7°C.
Lake Superior has the coldest water temperatures. Summer averages 11.4 °C /52°.5 F
When I kayaked on Superior I always wore a wet suit just in case I ended up in the water.
I've seen some mighty waves on the lakes!
