Olive ridley sea turtle
While my kids were in Mexico a couple of weeks ago they got some great shots of an Olive ridley sea turtle swimming in Zihuatanejo Bay.
I did a bit of research and found that they get their name because of the olive/grayish-green color of their heart-shaped carapace (top shell),
These turtles live in the Pacific and Indian oceans and in tropical areas of the Atlantic. Although considered abundant, in some areas they are listed as endangered due to loss of habitat and pollution.
They are the 2nd smallest sea turtle,. If they survive to adulthood they can live up to 50 years.
Olive Ridley sea turtles are omnivores, eating both plants and animals. Their diet includes algae, jellyfish, crabs, shrimp, mollusks, and sometimes fish. often diving to depths of 500 feet (150 m) to feed on bottom-dwelling crustaceans. That's impressive. When I have gone scuba diving the deepest I have gone is 60 feet.
Olive Ridley turtles can hold their breath for several hours, depending on their activity level, but they must surface to breathe.
Living in the middle part of the US, far from any ocean, it's always quite thrilling to see the creatures that live in the sea!
Turtles are so beautiful! I had one that I named "Bartolo" but it was stolen from me.
That's sad. Pets are part of the family, and taking them away is like kidnapping.

Yes, they're impressive creatures. On my walks in the city park, I look out for turtles in the small lake. Last year, there were three, but this year, I've already seen two sunbathing, which means spring is here, and soon, there will be frogs and snakes, too.
I love seeing sea turtles, it's always such a thrill to see them in nature and have chance to swim with them. It's not common to find them as much anymore, most are vulnerable or endangered species now.
How cool that they got to see an Olive Ridley!
It's really great, your daughter, what a beautiful view and the turtle photo is very focused, I really like it ❤️
Wow cool photos. Looks like a beautiful place too.
These pictures are really beautiful and it's make me appreciate nature more. Thank you for sharing with us.
They are very happy there.
It is so nice that they can see the live turtle, I think I only see the live turtleonce or twice so far, although I am not that far from the beach.

These photos are simply beautiful
Thanks for sharing your amazing photography skills. Above all, this amazing turtle is very beautiful to see in different colors. But the beautiful shape and external structure of this amazing animal in the Indian Ocean is really great. I have seen it for many years but the color of this animal is very different. Thanks for sharing.
Is it olive colored where you are?
The pictures are cute
Great pictures, and informative text. I've never seen sea turtles in their natural environment. So they do eat jellyfish, many of them I saw on the beaches and always thought that being pushed out by the sea was the only danger for them. 🙂
