Leftover Valentines

Valentines Day has come and gone and Michael's arts and crafts store is making a last effort to sell off the leftover holiday merchandise, to make room on the shelves for the Saint Patrick's day and Easter items.

Most of the items on the Valentine's display are listed at 60% off. It makes me wonder who will be buying them even at a good price like that. I know that I have no use for making a purchase and packing them away until next year.

These red, white and pink boxes are sold as mailboxes for students to place on their desks and receive Valentine cards that have been created by their classmates and delivered to their box. When I was a kid we used a shoebox or any old box and decorated it in anticipation of the Valentine cards we would receive from our friends. The teacher provided a list of all of our classmates names and it was a good exercise in writing the names and then reading them so we knew which mailbox to place them in.

Some items that are not Valentines Day specific might be a good deal though.

There certainly seems to be a lot of Valentines Day products left over after the holiday has passed! I wonder if they ordered too much or if sales were not as brisk as they anticipated.

I hope you had a nice Valentines Day!

It will still sell for a while longer. We still have Christmas on some of the shelves! We will probably have Valentine's on the shelf at Michaels until April. 😆

Hi!

I don't know who buys the leftovers either unless it is something someone can use in crafts or other occasions, even though they are red, pink or hearts. My Uncle used to go right away to the department stores or drug stores, just like after Christmas and buy up the deeply discounted chocolates.

When I was in elementary school, some of the early years we used to make a pocket out of two paper plates. One stayed whole and the other was cut in half and stapled to the whole one as the inside of the plates faced each other. Of course we colored them and put our names on them with crayons, made a hole punch in the top and either hung them with ribbon on the backs of our chairs or on a bulletin board. I hadn't thought of that in many years. ❤️ Hope you had a nice Valentine's Day.

Aldi's had rather inexpensive lobster so I bought one for myself and had a nice Valentines dinner!

I loved giving out and receiving those little Valentines cards from my classmates! The paper plate idea was ingenious. Kids who had parents who helped decorate their shoebox always had the fanciest mailboxes. It made you feel sad for the other kids who just brought in an undecorated kleenex or cereal box.

Nostalgically, a few years I was tempted to buy a box of the cards and just give them out wherever I went. I didn't do it, but I thought about it. Those really were the fun days.

Surely someone will buy it, especially since the discount is big. Like the stickers on the first shelf, they can be used for DIY crafts. Flowers on the third shelf can be used as gifts for other days such as birthdays, graduations and so on.

There is always so much left over after days like this. A shame… as most will be thrown.
I tend to not go with the buy all holidays day things.
We just spend a nice day and create memories 😊
More and more people do the same I hear.
Have a wonderful new week 🥰

All of these are great, but The day after's my favorite. The only thing sweeter than Valentine's Day candy, 60% off Valentine's Day candy. :)

There are people who get really into decorating, who (hopefully) have the storage space to keep things, who probably hit up the clearance deals after all the holidays, but I can't imagine it's lots of people, especially for a more minor holiday like Valentine's that isn't usually very decorating-heavy the way Christmas or Halloween can be.
We didn't even do boxes for Valentines when I was in school, we just passed them out loose. xD
Edit: ooh but maybe the teachers hit up the clearance, they usually decorate their classrooms out of pocket.

With a piece of plastic wrap over the slot in the top of the box they could even be used for a gift of food items.
Maybe brownies or cupcakes!

as an old school retailer... thats the art, buying correct. AI won't tell you the answer. Its not science. You have to believe and take a position on faith haha. My wife loves these sales. She has some little cousins that she does art projects with... they don't mind "out of season" stickers haha

I bet they will sell the inexpensive stuff at 50% off, and the nicer stuff save for next year! Stores almost always over order, except when it's Halloween candy. They always run out by Halloween!

The good thing is that you can use them next year, at least the ones that say Valentine's Day.
The other ones with hearts and such, you can continue selling them the rest of the year for anniversaries and newly in love.
