In the neighborhood

I'm posting a couple photos today into my longtime friend @tattoodjay 's Wednesday Walk challenge. I'm unable to get out and do much exploring these days, but I wanted to show you a couple phone photos of neighborhood sights.

My Josephine clematis is blooming beside the front door. It's big showy blooms always attract lots of attention.

This is a blurry through the window shot of the fast moving mama red fox. She has a den with three kits under the abandoned garage that's over at the edge of the woods across the street from me. The youngsters are too far away to get photos with my camera equipment, but maybe when my kids come to visit we can get some shots with their superior gear. I can watch the kits playing if I quietly go out into the driveway, and my neighbor can see them if she stands on a chair and looks out her sunroom window! We hope to see them more often when they get old enough to be out on their own.

This is white wild Indigo. It is native to Wisconsin and is blooming right now in the open prairie areas. The pea shaped blossoms look quite distinctive against the gray stems and bees love the blooms.

Looks like it is going to be a hot summer day here in the woods beside the river! These white pelicans know how to stay cool!

These whirlygig. beetles were swimming rapidly together and disturbing the otherwise calm surface of river along the shore.

Hope you are having a delightful Wednesday!

Thanks for the curation and the token!
I love this flower filled time of year!
I haven't seen the fox family in a couple of days and am wondering if they have moved to a new house now that the pups are getting bigger. I hope they stay in the neighborhood!

Is it possible to bathe in these waters? I am surprised by the solitude that a photo can transmit, at least, some animals pose unconsciously. I love peaceful places in contact with nature. Blessings.

The river is very peaceful, unless it is disturbed by boats pulling water skiers or jet skis. Because the river flows through deep fertile black earth the water is not very clear and the bottom is muddy and often filled with fallen trees and branches. There are some occasional nice sandy beaches, if you know where to find them, but because of the swift current swimming is usually not encouraged.

Wow! The purple flowers are really stunning, now I'd like to get a josephine clematis plant as well hehe

And the fox!! I absolutely love their quiet yet mischievous nature 💚 How cool that you have them nearby!

The clemantis vine is about 15 years old and blooms dependably each June for a few weeks. It requires little care.

This is the first fox I have seen in the neighborhood in years so I'm really excited to have them around!

I love those flowers..so beautiful and attractive. They said "learning never ends" I just got to know the name of the flower today and why it's been regarded as one of the best pink double clematis.

It must feel magical to witness the mama fox and her kits so close to home almost like a secret world unfolding just across the street. @melinda010100

Lovely photos 🙂 We occasionally see a fox hurry through our yard and have seen kits but never figured out where the den is. Very cool to see young kits playing. Love the wild indigo, reminds me of lupine in California.

Oh, I love lupine! It is not native here and is usually only seen when it has escaped from someone's garden.

I read that foxes often use woodchuck holes as dens but they move frequently to new homes. Probably when the family outgrows the living space!

The flower is beautiful, and I've also learned its name. It's good to take a break from indoor to appreciate what we have all around us, especially what nature offers us freely.

I love being outdoors. Poor air quality from distant wildfire smoke makes it less pleasant than usual.

Yes, if only I was able to walk. Having MS has made that impossible for me. Appreciate each step you are able to take!

I am sorry to hear that, I too had mobility medical condition that I am living with and managing. Delaying the worst. A door closed a window open. I am sorry for the lack of good vocabulary

I think foxes are pretty helpful to have around. They keep the mice, vole, chipmunk, woodchuck and rabbit populations under control. They are very shy and avoid people, They are not aggressive toward humans.

We are taught to be wary of encountering a fox in the wild. They can be a carrier of rabies.

On June 21, on the Curonian Spit, I met a fox with my children in the parking lot. The children were even scared. She looked very ugly, she had a severe molt.

This time of year foxes are losing their beautiful red winter coat and females especially look pretty bedraggled from feeding a den full of pups. All wild animals can carry rabies, but I always think of foxes as rather friendly creatures.

I also explained to the children about the seasonal molting of the fox. My dog also molted in May.

Rabid foxes have a special feature - they go to a person and bite him.

What a gorgeous site you have right outside your house! It's really a shame you can't walk as much anymore, but such is life I have learned as well. That's a great shot at the darting mother fox, sounds like she's watching those kits well. It's been a crazy week, I'm still trying to catch up!

It's sad that you can't get out these days but I love how your neighbor shares photos with you. Or last time I think it was your son took you on a ride and showed you photos. Best wishes and much love. I hope you will see many more photos.
