Cicadas Reflections and Trees

This lovely little lake at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle Illinois was so filled with reflections that my thoughts were of @Olgavita and her Reflection Hunters Contest in the Shadow Hunters Community!

The Lake presented a great opportunity for reflection photos!

It was not quite as idyllic as it appears in the photos. Our massive cicada hatch is rather deafening, as you can hear in the video, and I've heard people say that they have begun wearing ear plugs when they go outdoors for any amount of time.

Usually a walk here would be quiet, peaceful, and filled with bird song!

The cicadas live underground for 17 years as nymphs and emerge to mate and start the whole 17-year cycle all over again. It looks like this pair will be successful!

The birds have been feasting, and I have not needed to fill my feeders since the cicadas arrived!

And since this is an arboretum I can't end without a couple of tree photos.

Lovely pictures, dear @melinda010100 ! The nature is so beautiful in your area! I love the reflections of clouds and trees in the waters of the lake, and cicadas - I didn't know they can be colourful, very different from what I saw in Greece.

Thanks! I think there are many different types of cicadas. These 17year cicadas are so interesting.

Breathtaking view! Yeah, the sound from the cicadas would seem to be too much after a while, based on the video

The cicadas are definitely noisy, but since it only happens every 17years we can put up with it for a few weeks!

I have a fondness for them. I have scattered memories of them throughout my life. Random encounters and facilitation with their size. Though I've never run into so many of them at once. I can see how that many would be deafening. I wonder how long it'll last.

The adult 17yr cicadas will live for 5-6 weeks after they have emerged from the ground. They are fascinating. I have gotten used to them, but sometimes I need to close the doors and windows to block some of the noise.

Yeah I remember finding them randomly on trees and sitting there playing with them and I was younger. I'm always kind of fond of them but the idea of seeing them in a massive swarm that's kind of intense

It is clear from the pictures how calming and relaxing the walk over there would be. Thanks for sharing such an amazing place and taking us along.

Wow Mel, must have been quite an experience hearing those cicadas so loudly. Nature's cycles are always so magical, especially how everything connects around us. Hope it wasn't too loud for your ears dearest

The adult cicadas will live for 5-6weeks They are not bothering me too much, although sometimes I just get annoyed with the noise and need to shut the doors and windows for a break from them!

What a beautiful lake, it would be a perfect place to visit if it weren't for the deafening screech of the cicadas.
Beautiful shots, appreciate the natural beauty dear friend @melinda010100

They only live 5-6 weeks so we are about half way through their life cycle... It will be lovely to enjoy the quiet again after they die off. Then the 17 year cycle will begin until we hear them again. They are such fascinating insects.

That is a great place to have a nice relaxing walk, if only the deafening sound was gone! Good thing they are short lived. It's smart to wear earplugs, they can damage human hearing.

I credit all the birds that I have around with doing a bit of noise control at my house. It is not as bad here as it is in some other places. Makes me glad that I've attracted so many birds here with my bird feeders

The birds beaks are full. They are eating cicadas. No time to sing lol
