Feathered Friends

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher

In spite of their name, gnats are not a significant part of the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher's diet, They do eat spiders, caterpillars, flies and many other small insects.

Tree Swallow

This tree swallow looks quite comfortable sitting atop this birdhouse designed for bluebirds. Many cavity nesting birds face a shortage of natural nest sites.

Eastern Kingbird

The name Kingbird refers to the aggression they show with each other and with other species when they are
defending their nests. They will attack much larger predators like hawks, crows, and squirrels.

Cute birds. Good facts to know about. Loved the king one, reminds me of the bluejays. Nice pictures. #waves #gosh

That little Kingbird will take on blue Jays that come within its territory.

They build houses like this for starlings. I plan to build birdhouses every year, but I forget.

Your days are busy, but the birds will appreciate it if you find time!

Birds are used to seeing food in the feeder even in the summer. A woodpecker flew in yesterday and was looking for seeds.
I will try to build birdhouses in the fall or just buy them.

I keep my feeders full all year round simply because I love watching them. I get different birds in the summer that aren't here in the winter.

Great captures. The gnatcatcher eye is cool. It is staring at you. The white outline makes it pop out of the photo at you.

I love seeing the birds that are not seed eaters. It's easy to forget about the birds that don't come to the feeders.

Thanks for appreciating the photos! I'm always pleased with decent bird photos. It is sometimes challenging to get good shots of birds.

Great pictures! Interesting that the gnatcatcher doesn't really catch many gnats. I hadn't heard of the kingbird before, but very interesting. I guess you don't want to mess with one of their nests! Great job!
