Ducks for Feathered Friends Community

Mallards occur throughout North America and Eurasia and are probably the duck that many of us are most familiar with.

I often have mallards walking through the yard in search of nesting sites and occasionally the female builds a nest on the ground under the shrubs near the house, but because of the raccoons that come around they have never had a successful hatch here.

Did you know that only the female mallards quack? I learned that while reading about them for this post Just when I think I know about the critters that live near me, I learn something new!

Feeding bread to ducks can cause them to not receive the nutrients that they need and that can cause deformaties that prevent them from being able to fly. Feeding vegetables is a better choice!

Maybe they are using the name of the boat to practice spelling or learning their letters? If so this one gets a star for a great letter T.

I've never posted in two languages. I've heard that translating and reading is easy if you use Google Chrome.

Man I love ducks. There are always some flying around this part of town because we are between a nature preserve and a forest with ponds. A pair even calls the neighbours pool home every spring.

To celebrate your mallards, here is a really bad pic of a couple of them circling to land beside our dog park! ;)

Hello, good afternoon. It must be really nice to live in a place where wild animals come all the way to your backyard.
I have seen that you have mounted images of several of them and of the lake that you have near the house.
It must be a very pleasant place on a spiritual level that area.
I am very glad that you have the opportunity to be and share in that habitat, and that you also share it with us.
By the way, I learned today in your post, that only mallard females are the ones who squawk, and that it is bad to feed them with bread.
Happy weekend.

These ducks live wild and free in the northern hemisphere and can be found on almost every lake and stream. Sometimes on mud puddles too!

How beautiful!
Many years ago I saw this type of duck in a local zoo, but they're no longer available.
It's wonderful to be able to enjoy them freely and peacefully in their habitat!

Did you know that only the female mallards quack?

They can't figure out if the males can quack because the females never give them the chance to talk 😜

If so this one gets a star for a great letter T

😂🤣😂

You might be right 😁 they are pretty noisy considering that it is only the females doing the talking.

Give me a T

We do have several different wild duck species here. Mallards are the most common. They are quite beautiful!
