Cautious and shy
The weekly contest in the Feathered Friends Community is hosted by @nelinoeva. SMaP Contest SMaP stands for Show Me A Photo and this week Neli has asked for photos of headless birds! If you want to see some funny photos go take a look at the contest entries!
Thrushes
Thrushes are common throughout the forests of eastern U.S. and southeastern Canada. In winter they migtate to tropical evergreen forests along the Gulf-Caribbean side of Mexico and Central America.
Veery
Veeries are medium sized thrushes.
Thrushes are most often found on the ground in forests, foraging on the forest floor, searching for invertebrates and fruits.
Many thrushes are monogamous and strongly defend their territories.
They build cup-shaped nests, sometimes lining them with mud.
Hermit Thrush
Thrushes are known for their cautious and shy nature. They are often heard before they are seen
The Hermit Thrush was chosen as Vermont's state bird in 1941 due to its native status and beautiful song.
as always, all my photos are original

funny to see this , again these look like the european family :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_thrush
Since we have similar weather it's probably not too surprising, but also pretty cool that there are similar species there!

Thanks for the support!
I just found out about the Vermont state bird from my friend in Wisconsin 😂 Kind of a plain looking bird but I guess the cardinal was already taken by 7 other states lol Vermont does like to be independent and a bit eccentric. I know we have veeries around. I will have to look closer for the Hermit Thrush. I do like the pattern on their breast. I remember seeing them in California.
Ha! Glad to keep you informed on the bird news front! 😘
Even though it is known as shy, this bird still tries to display its most beautiful style. his style is full of authority.
You are right. It always seems that it looks you in the eye and is very confident!
His sharp gaze made me feel awkward🤣
What great shots of the little thrush. They are cute little birds! Do you see them often in your yard?
Thanks! I most often see the wood thrush. Since thrushes are not seed eaters they don't come to my feeders, so I have to be on the lookout to see any of them.
An interesting post, Melinda. So funny, these thrushes are very similar to a song thrush. And anyway, it's funny that even if you don't know the species of a bird, you can guess which family it belongs to by characteristic features.
