BBQ chicken on the grill

Does it get any better than a gorgeous summer day with BBQ chicken on the grill?

Cooking and eating outdoors is one of my favorite things about summer.

Chicken legs can be marinated overnight before placing on the grill. Brush with your favorite BBQ sauce during the last minutes of cooking.

Freshly picked sweet corn is always a delicious summertime treat that I try to et as often as possible while it is in season during July and August. Roadside stands open, selling corn that has just been picked. Local teens can earn money by getting up early to help with the picking. Grilled for about 10 minutes and served with butter and salt makes a perfect accompaniment to the chicken.

Using a meat thermometer is the safest way to be sure the chicken is done. Nobody likes biting into an underdone piece of chicken!

Freshly baked cornbread is tasty with some butter and honey on top.

Relax and enjoy!

Good morning dear friend @melinda010100
It's great that your son has purchased this grill, they are putting it to good use.
There is nothing better than eating grilled chicken outdoors in the company of loved ones.
Have a happy start to the week

Hey you got us in dairy 🐄 for sure 😁 I have a few friends from WI that live here. Everytime they go back I tell them to bring back me some curds 😋

I bought curds yesterday. The part of WI where I live near the Illinois state line has deep rich prairie soil and we grow pretty darn good crops and produce around here too. But yeah, cheese. I'm so glad it's easy to find great cheese!

That looks really good! I love corn on those roadside stands, fresh picked! I'm going to have to head down to the farmer's market today and see what I can find!

How's your Sunday going?

It's been a stormy rainy Sunday and I have learned a new term from the National Weather Service. Aerial flooding. That is what they are calling downpours these days.
Hope you found some good produce.

They have to come up with some new weather term to sound more serious than it really is. Thirty years ago it did the same thing but it was just a heavy downpour in a thunder storm....

I just got back with some strawberries and white corn!

Does your family BBQ in the garden? When my kids were younger we used to camp in the woods and cook over wood fires. Maybe that's where my son got his love of outdoor cooking!

When my daughter-in-law had sweet corn for the first time after moving to the US she was shocked at how wonderful it is. So different than what was available to her in Russia

Wow, amazing Mel, I'm thinking of roasting it?🤔 Is that weird

I sometimes drop it into a pan of boiling water on top of the stove. I like it that way, too. Problem with that is that it really heats up the kitchen on a hot summer day.

The smell of roasting is unique, the food is impregnated with it, leaving a delicious smoky flavor.
Delicious summer option

Simple delicious meal, nothing beats cooking and eating together outdoors in good company, a weekend treat!

Have you tried cooking the corn in the sheath on a fire, that too makes for a tasty change?

I have cooked it in the sheath, but think it is hard to unwrap when it is hot. I sometimes drop it in a pan of boiling water, too. It is a summertime treat!

When not open fire cooking I found oven roasting in sheath holds moisture in better than boiling. Remove from oven then partially open a couple of leaves, cut with sharp knife at base of stalk removing all the leaves in one go, add butter or salt to nibble !LOLZ

My mom used to make a delicious cornbread using fresh corn. I must dig into her recipe book and see if I can find it.

This is a wonderful time of year for fresh produce! I have a corn bread recipe with fresh corn and green chilies and sour cream. It is moist and delicious. I'll bet your mom's recipe is nice and moist, too!
