A birthday party storm!
The family was here this weekend for an August birthday party get together. The clouds that were rolling around predicted that rain was on the way and by the time we had finished eating we were getting severe thunderstorm warnings on various devices.
The wind picked up, it started raining heavily, and then the hail began! It was so noisy in the house we had to shout to hear each other.
Some of the hail stones were as big as ping pong balls!
Green leaves and walnuts were falling and I was afraid if it didn't stop soon the trees would be bare.
Normally by the middle of August the weather is hot and very dry and the grass is brown and crispy . Not this year! It is hot and very wet , to the point that I'm beginning to feel like I live in a tropical climate.
After the hail stopped everyone went out to check if their cars had any dents, but it appeared that all were unscathed!
My next concern is how much all this rain is going to cause the river to rise. I can see that water levels have come up, but it is not yet overflowing it's banks. The next few days will show how much flooding we can expect.

My house is on high ground so I don't worry much about river flooding. Mary Poppins is my main family photographer now that my physical movement is so difficult. I depend on her.
well she is doing a verry good job in photography and suplying you with content , i hope to get behind the steeringwheel again before the weekend and start with small walks again .

We do try to get together as frequently as we can. Jobs get in the way, but we stay in close contact in a WhatsApp family group.
The storm on the birthday looks kinda fun, if it's not much. I love the sight, it looks beautiful.
It was fun, with everyone here laughing and joking.

It was a lot of rain and I'm sure water levels are coming higher. My house is on high ground, but I worry for my neighbors.

STOPHopefully it won't flood too much, but with lost of rain comes flooding in that part of the country. You're very lucky the storm didn't spawn tornados with hail that size. I'm glad you all are safe even if the plants did take a bit of beating. Hail that size can do some serious damage!
They kept talking about cloud rotation, but no tornado warnings were ever issued. Just a good old fashioned summer gully washer! 4-6 inches over the weekend, depending on who is telling the story!
What a storm. That does sound like a tropical climate.
The hail ice chunks look big. I live in the tropics, and although we've had hailstorms where I live, they're not as big as you're showing. The hail from the rains I've had on this side is much smaller.
I've seen pea sized hail, but this was big for here!

Oh… Melinda, I do hope the river stays in its place and doesn’t cause trouble with flooding. Those hailstones are enormous. That birthday party will surely be talked about for years to come. And the cars—weren’t they damaged by those hailstones that sounded like falling rocks? 😯
My son in laws car had one dent. It was the only one we found, luckily!
