A wagon maker, a bootlegger, and a Hollywood comedy!
A walk through Chicago's Old Town Triangle District is a bit like stepping back in time.
This house has a very diverse history.
This example of working class housing from 1874 was built by wagon maker Theodore Becking. The families 3 chdren were raised there and his widow lived in the home until her death in 1888.
In 1932 the cottage was at the center of Chicago's Prohibition history when bootlegger Sam Mule, a rival of Al Capone, was fatally shot through it's front window,
Decades later Hollywood stars Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson made it their tempory hone while filming the 1986 comedy 'Hellcats'.
Today, the cottage and its English-inspired garden features over 100 rose bushes.
I don't know much about these next homes, but found them quite charming!
They look impressive, nice housing and beautiful neighborhood!
When I was a kid it was an unsafe, rundown neighborhood, so it's wonderful to see the improvements!
It is wonderful to see things improve!

Waooo...it so amazing! What a Lot of history! Thanks for The tour, it's very interesting.
I'll bet each one of the houses has some interesting history! If only they could talk! 😁
The houses you've featured are beautiful, each with its own unique character. I love the architectural details, including the carvings, windows, doors, and colors. They're all very appealing.
Appealing and expensive!
Smart pictures and top notch description. The serenity of the community can be defined in the calmness that appeared in the images. Well taken snapshots.
Thanks so much! It's nice to hear from you!
We still have some places with wooden buildings too , not so many but if you look on google maps you can find them : https://maps.app.goo.gl/FtdtoHLDr5wHJ1k17
Wood has probably been our most common building material here for residential building. Especially for single family homes. Over 90% of homes in US are wood framed.
They look so beautiful even the houses has aged. The sourrounding also is very nice and impressive.
It is a lovely neighborhood,
These are all beautiful houses, with calm and peaceful environment
It is a nice neighborhood!
The houses are stunning! Each one carries its own unique story and charm.
I wish I knew more of the stories of the families that have lived in the houses over the years. Imagine someone being killed with a gunshot through the window in the first cute little pink house.
Wow such fantastic homes! Definitely not what you would immediately picture as Chicago.
I just love the old homes and it is even better when you uncover the stories like you have. I really should take an afternoon and capture and share some of the century homes in this neat little town.
I'd love to see some of the old homes in your town!
A new years after the Great Chicago Fire an ordinance was passed requiring all homes to be built of brick or stone. Many of these frame houses were built during the grace period before the ordinance was passed
Pictures of wonderful houses. How you always surprise me with your photographs.
I'm glad you enjoy the photos and appreciate your comments!
