Trump Takes On Russia: Drill Baby Drill
Trump Takes On Russia: Drill Baby Drill
It's no secret that Russian Gas importation to Western Europe being paused due to sanctions have hurt Europe more. Recent reports who gas and energy costs increased in Europe the moment the pipe's were switched off with many calling for them not to be re-instated. The current issue at hand is politician's across the world have been slow to come up with alternatives and debates between left and right still dominate parliaments around the world.
While high income and well off citizens around the world continue to debate environmental impacts, the poor and the working class continue to wear the burden of the cost of living increases with many forced to freeze in winter and remain in hot homes during summers.
It's this disconnection between global citizens that has cause the POTUS to do what I like to call a "Dan Andrews". For residents in other nations, Daniel Andrews is one of the longest serving premiers in Victoria, Australia and he's leadership was very different. Despite the negative press surrounding him on what the CIA now says is highly probable lab grown virus in.... China. He was someone who didn't muck about and didn't listen to the naysayers, the internet trolls and just got on with the job delivering high outcomes for all.
Trump has similar leadership styles in the fact he is just ignoring the noise and focusing on the Agenda that has been set. Although, Trump is a bit more of a show pony and that comes from his history and experience in the T.V and Entertainment industry which adds more flare to his time as POTUS.
However, his showmanship does cause further controversy in some of the things he says which gives media something to pursue. You'll often find that in politics, people attack the person rather than the policy and while Trump does give them ammunition, it's important we look past the noise for what's actually happening.
Trump's recent move seems to point to the U.S taking on Russia to restore Europe's energy crisis and increase the value of the USD.
Executive Order 14153: Unleashing Alaska's Extraordinary Resource Potential
Geographically, Alaska is close to Russia with the Bering Strait separating the two by approximately 55 miles at their nearest point and was a core strategic point for the U.S during the Cubin Missile Crisis. This proximity has strategic benefits for U.S energy exports particularly in the context of liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments to Asian and European markets.
Alaska's North Slope region is estimated to contain a significant natural gas reserve on par with Russia as they both share that geographical area with those resources being able to be developed to meet both domestic and international energy demands.
The proposed Alaska LNG project a USD 44 billion initiative will build a 807 mile pipeline to transport up to 3.3 billion cubic feet of gas per day from the North Slope to an export terminal in Nikiski. This project is designed to facilitate LNG exports to global markets, including Europe and Asia. Striking at Russia's hold over Germany and other European nations who have suffered under the current sanctions and seen cost of living crisis sky rocket.
While there maybe environmental impacts it is important to also note that it is the working class and poorer global citizens that are crumbling under the current economic crisis which as no end in sight. While renewable energy maybe a potential replacement it is not a large enough sector just yet to provide the financial relief many are looking for. In business and politics a 5 - 10 year time frame might be an acceptable time frame, one must remember that those 5 - 10 years is hardship on children, families struggling to put food on the table and keeping a roof over their heads. Families do not have that time. Western nations who are championing "clean energy" and other measures are giving the working class, their families and communities around the world multiple life sentences of poverty.
Alaska's Potential Role in Addressing the Global Energy Crisis
The development of Alaska's natural gas resources presents an opportunity for the United States to alleviate the global energy crisis exacerbated by reduced Russian gas supplies. By increasing LNG exports from Alaska, the U.S. could provide European nations with a stable and secure energy source and reduce the worlds reliance on Russian gas and enhancing global energy security. Which is why Trump has constantly stated energy is a national security risk.
Expanding Alaska's energy production aligns with broader national interests by strengthening the U.S. position as a leading energy exporter. This strategy not only supports allies in need but also contributes to domestic economic growth through job creation and increased revenues from energy exports bringing down the cost of living and providing relief to the worlds working class and poorer residents.
There are a number of concerns ranging from Indigenous populations, environmental groups which are all valid and important and what the president needs to understand especially when it comes to Indigenous populations, is that Indigenous populations are already living in poverty and often kept out of any financial growth with everyone else. So this is a core issue the POTUS needs to focus on for success.
The other big concern is the current confidence in the market, there is no shortage of companies who want in and they probably agree with this approach but they are worried about political changes as these companies bleed money when presidents come in and alter things. Oil and gas companies are cautious about investing in large scale projects in Alaska due to high operational costs, logistical challenges and most importantly the potential for future policy reversals.
Will Uncle Sam Be Successful?
It's hard to state but he is already receiving the title of dictator which so to did Dan for just getting on with the job that the majority wanted and that's what's happening here with the MAGA movement, we're seeing the working class and poorer people being left behind for the progression of elite groups. Cultural wars plaguing nations all while we burn at the cost of living crisis.
Trump's moves so far appear to be focused on increasing U.S Dollar value, job creation and doing what the world has tried to do to Russia but failed with sanctions and completely level them from the earth without throwing a single grenade, going after their number 1 export, Gas.
In war, it's not always about bullets and missiles especially in today's cyber geopolitical world. The pen is mightier than the sword.
