Aintree Community Grand Opening

Aintree Community Grand Opening

The We Love Aintree Community Garden Grand Opening was an awesome event that my kids and I were thrilled to attend. Held from 10 AM to 12 PM the event brought together community members to celebrate the launch of a space dedicated to sustainability, gardening and community engagement. With a wide range of workshops, activities and delicious food on offer. It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning as a family.

The day was filled with local community members all engaging in various activities. The kids were particularly excited to participate in the community awareness activities and games, with one of their Favorite experiences being building bug houses.

As they carefully constructed small wooden structures filled with twigs, leaves and bamboo. They learned about the importance of creating safe habitats for beneficial insects like bees and ladybugs. This hands on activity not only sparked their creativity but also taught them about biodiversity and the role insects play in maintaining healthy gardens.

The event also featured a Kids Gardening Workshop where they got the chance to dig into the soil and plant their own seedlings. Watching my kids carefully place tiny plants into their containers was awesome and they learned about food growing and sustainability. The nature workshop further reinforced these lessons and concepts of composting, pollination and the benefits of maintaining a green space in the community which we also do at home.

Of course, no community event would be complete without delicious food and drinks. A BBQ station operated by the local scouts group offered free sausages, while a coffee cart kept the adults fuelled and engaged in conversation. Pastries and cold drinks were also available, making it easy for families to take a break and enjoy a snack in the welcoming garden space.

the Aintree Community Garden is set to be a hub for ongoing engagement. Maintenance Mondays, held weekly from 10 AM to 11 AM, provide an opportunity for community members to help with gardening tasks, food swaps and general upkeep of the space. The garden will also host monthly community workshops on food growing, biodiversity and sustainability, ensuring that the knowledge shared at the grand opening continues to benefit locals.

Another awesome weekend!
