Horrible Holiday Experience: Inhumanely Treated

Of a certain, the holiday is far gone but then some people have beautiful memories to share while some have horrible ones to share, however it goes, this impact stays with us for a while and as long as we can remember them.

During the holiday, I had so many memories I would love to share but then, one out of many stands out, it almost wrecked my life but then, I am grateful to God I passed through the storm without being hurt in any way. So at this juncture, permit me to share with you all the outstanding experience I had during the new year holiday and I am wishing we learn a lesson from this piece.

It was really an exciting week, I was all set to resume work this week but then, he unimaginable happened, it all happened I gave my landlord my Labtop to use for his video editing work with an assurance of giving it back to me whenever I needed, this he agreed before I handed it over to him.

He used the Labtop since December, 2023 till 9th of January this year, I asked for it and he told me he was never going to give me again, I got to know that he had formatted everything I had on the Labtop and only his videos were there. So on the 9th of January, I told him he was giving me my Labtop else I will get angry at him and he swore never to give it to me.

I was angry and disappointed at the same time, I had to report him to his eldest brother and his mother, they never did anything about it, it began to dawn on me that he was serious of what he said, when I approached him to give me the Labtop, he told me as long as I am living in his compound, he was never going to give me.

By this, I was angry, I blocked the way and when he tried getting inside, he punched me and chased me with a machete, luckily for me, I was really fast to escape to the nearby compound. When I came back, he held me on my clothes and tore it again, I was angry and in self-defense, I punched him and his eyes got reddish.

This was when he called his police friends and they got me arrested that night, I had to spend the whole night in cell without being asked what happened, in the morning which happened to be Wednesday, they asked me of what happened and I made my statement. I was asked to bail myself with the sum of #15,000 naira which is equivalent to 33.4 Hive even when they realized I never wronged anyone.

They seized my Labtop as well and the following day which was thursday, they asked me to come bail my Labtop as well, I went and they wanted me to pay a huge amount again to bail my labtop, I told them I won't be able to do, I was just so ready to forgo the Labtop and just let everything end, so I went to a shade and shed tears, just recalling how inhumanely I was being treated in the cell by the old-timers.

In the midst of my thoughts, a kindhearted police woman reached out to me and took me to the head of Police Department on Legal Matters, there I told the man everything and he apologized for the careless act of the police officers and gave back my laptop to me.

I went back home and throughout the day, I was just thinking of how wicked people can be, how humanity has grown from repaying good for good to repaying evil for good, I was just stuck with my thought and promised never to make such mistake again this year and beyond, I can't even borrow someone my device anymore so I won't have to face all I faced. Also, I am poised to work harder and smarter so I will be able to get a house of my own without intimidation from landlords.
