The shambolic loss that changed things

For most Splinterlands players, there are moments that serve as turning points for them. For me it was a series of losses, but there was a particular battle which I lost, that was key to my turning point.

In this battle, I decided to go with the water element. I was totally beaten in this battle. It was a shambolic loss for me. However, it was a battle I learnt so much from. I learnt from my mistakes and corrected them.

Looking at that battle, I realized that my problem started from the archons. I chose Marlai Singariel as my archon. She increased the attack of magic units by 1. Now, considering this, I should have made sure that majority of my squad was magic units. This was one mistake I learnt lesson from. If I had more magic units, then I would have more units with boosted attacking threat.

Still on archons, my opponent used the death archon, Thalgrimore. Thalgrimore removes 1 health from enemy units. This is one major thing that made me lose the battle. I picked units that had small amounts of health. With Thalgrimore's effect, their health got even smaller. To make things even worse, the good majority of my opponent's units had attacking stats of up to 2. The result of this is that every attack against my units was lethal and mostly ended up with my unit being eliminated.

I kept on losing units with almost every attack. It was as if my units could not withstand it. My units tried to fight back but they could not even eliminate a single enemy unit.

In round one, the unit in my first position was Great bear druid. It received a lot of attacks, and before I knew it, it was eliminated. My magic units delivered some attacks but they didn't do much.

In this same round, Vengeful Monk which was the next unit in my line up went into the first position and was immediately eliminated. Still in this round 1, Water-logged Wizard got eliminated. I must say, it was disappointing seeing my units easily get eliminated like that in just the first round.

In round 2, Lunaki Howler who already had its health depleted, what eliminated in one strike. The decimation continued. Frostguard Warrior was the next to go after it was attacked.

Finally, in the last round, Spitting Camel was the last of my units left. It was eliminated instantly.

All the enemy units remained by the time the battle was over.

I realized that generally, I should have gone with units with greater health and even armor. Then, I also realized this applies even more to the unit in the first position. I should have gone for units with a lot of armor and sufficient health because that's a hot position for any unit due to the amount of attacks.

In addition, I should have chosen units with better attack power. This would have made my attacks more impactful. I would have been able to take out the enemy units.

The nature of this loss sparked a turning point in my Splinterlands journey. It was embarrassing and I decided to do what I need to do to prevent that kind of shambolic loss in the future.

This is why I don't joke with health and armor when picking my monsters. They are absolutely crucial.

Abilities are also crucial. I believe abilities are there to make you win battles. Once you take full advantage of abilities, you will win a lot of battles. That's what I observed. Before this battle, I didn't pay much attention to abilities. But after it, I put a lot of focus on abilities, learnt the best ways to use them and things got better from there.
