[En/Esp] Winged Mermaid: SketchBook Chapter 6 | Sirena Alada: SketchBook Capítulo 6

Hello, my dear hivers!
In this new colorful chapter, almost at the end of May and of the “mermay” challenge known as a mermaid challenge, i wanted to dedicate a new page with this theme.

En este nuevo capítulo colorido, ya casi finalizando el mes de mayo y del reto "mermay" conocido como un reto de sirenas, quería dedicar una nueva página con este tema.

I was always a fan of these mythical creatures since i was a child because of their colors and because i was always fascinated by everything related to the sea, in fact, i got to have many mermaid dolls and a mermaid Barbie in a turquoise blue that i loved. Although i'm not so much a fan of drawing them anymore, i wanted to dedicate a chapter in my little sketchBook on the occasion of the mermaid drawing challenge, but i had serious doubts about how this would turn out and if it would be possible on this limited canvas. I grabbed a 2h pencil and started tracing a delicate and elegant creature. I don't know why i put wings on it but that's how it flowed and that's how i left it.

Siempre fui fan de estas criaturas míticas desde niña por sus colores y porque siempre me fascinó todo lo relacionado con el mar, de hecho, llegué a tener muchas muñecas sirenas y una Barbie sirena de un azul turquesa que amaba. Aunque ya no soy tan fan de dibujarlas, quería dedicar un capítulo en mi pequeño SketchBook con motivo del reto de dibujar sirenas, pero tenía serias dudas de cómo resultaría esto y si sería posible en este limitado lienzo. Agarré un lapiz 2h y comencé a trazar una criatura delicada y elegante. No sé por qué razón le coloqué alas pero así fluyó y así lo dejé.

The previous chapters have been relaxing to paint, but i admit that in this one i almost entered that state of frustration of the past, i say almost because it did not materialize, fortunately it was like when meditating, the teachings tell you that you must be the observer of your thoughts not your thoughts and emotions themselves so as not to let them control you. So it was, i observed my possible frustration but i did not let it expand. I decided to flow like the water and the background of this drawing. It was clear to me that the moon resting on her tiara would be blue and the background would also have those bluish tones, as if she were in her marine kingdom. For the base of the moon i used alcohol markers and the background with acrylics.

Los capítulos anteriores han sido relajantes de pintar, pero admito que en este casi entro en ese estado de frustración del pasado, digo casi porque no se materializó, por fortuna fue como cuando al meditar, las enseñanzas te dicen que debes ser el observador de tus pensamientos no tus pensamientos y emociones en sí para no dejarte controlar por ellos. Así fue, observé mi posible frustración pero no la dejé expandirse. Decidí fluir como el agua y el fondo de este dibujo. Tenía claro que la luna que reposa en su tiara sería azul y el fondo también tendría esos tonos azulados, como si estuviese en su reino marino. Para la base de la luna usé marcadores de alcohol y el fondo con acrílicos.

Before adding details and defining what materials i would use for the rest of the drawing, i made the base for this mermaid queen with alcohol markers, i chose very light tones, since it is a very small canvas i can't complicate myself with so many details. Although i would have liked to use only the markers, for this chapter i needed my old techniques.

Antes de agregar detalles y definir qué materiales usaría para el resto del dibujo, la base para esta reina sirena la hice con marcadores de alcohol, elegí unos tonos muy claritos, por ser un lienzo muy pequeño no puedo complicarme con tantos detalles. Aunque me hubiese gustado usar solo los marcadores, para este capítulo necesité de mis viejas técnicas.

Although i would normally use the calibrated black ink pens for this step, i decided to use a simple purple pen, just outlining some details as i didn't want it to lose the subtlety and delicacy of the mermaid.

Aunque normalmente usaría los boligrafos calibrados de tinta negra para este paso, decidí usar un simple bolígrafo de color morado, solo delinear algunos detalles pues no quería que perdiera la sutilidad y delicadeza de la sirena.

For this chapter as i mentioned before i had to resort to my old techniques. This drawing from the beginning i had planned to have fine and delicate strokes so i was afraid that using markers and black pens would ruin the whole drawing, so i took out my old colored pencils to color the most important parts, i tried not to use too many tones, that everything would be between blue and violet tones, cold colors like sea creatures, but highlighting some details with shades more towards pink, vermilion and a little yellow or neon green, i do not know exactly what color it is, the truth.

Para este capítulo como mencioné anteriormente tuve que recurrir a mis viejas técnicas. Este dibujo desde un principio tenía planeado que tuviese trazos finos y delicados así que temía que al usar marcadores y delineadores negros arruinara todo el dibujo, así que saqué mis viejos lápices de colores para colorear las partes más importantes, intenté no usar demasiados tonos, que todo quedase entre los tonos azulados y violetas, colores frios como las criaturas marinas, pero resaltanto algunos detalles con tonos más hacia el rosado, vermellon y un poco de amarillo o verde neon, no sé exactamente qué color es, la verdad.

I love the iridescence that fish scales tend to have, so i wanted to achieve that play of colors but not to make it look like a carnival. At the end i did use a very fine black ink calibrated pen to place details in the eyes and the rest of his face, but very carefully because i didn't want black strokes to predominate in the drawing. With a neon-colored acrylic marker i added lights and with a greenish alcohol marker i added a subtle shadow to highlight the figure from the background but not to be too exaggerated.

Amo la iridiscencia que suelen tener las escamas de los peces y demás, así que quería lograr ese juego de colores pero que no pareciese un carnaval. Al final sí utilicé un bolígrafo calibrado de tinta negra muy fino para colocarle detallitos en los ojos y el resto de su rostro, pero con mucho cuidado pues no quería que predominaran trazos negros en el dibujo. Con un marcador acrílico de color neón agregué luces y con un marcador de alcohol de tono verdoso agregué una sombra sutil para destacar la figura del fondo pero que no fuese demasiado exagerado.

And that's how this winged mermaid queen turned out, although i was skeptical about this drawing from the beginning, in the end i loved the colors and the result wasn't a disaster as i thought it would be. It reminded me of my favorite childhood barbie, i really miss her. Maybe because these days i saw some pictures on social networks of a toy store that sold collectible barbie dolls and unintentionally came out in my strokes.

Y así fue como quedó esta reina sirena alada, aunque me mantuve escéptica con este dibujo desde el comienzo, al final me encantaron los colores y el resultado no fue un desastre como pensé que sería. Me recordó a mi barbie favorita de la infancia, realmente la extraño. Tal vez porque en estos días vi unas fotos en las redes sociales de una jugueteria que vendía muñecas barbie de colección y sin querer salió en mis trazos.
