[En/Esp] Sketchbook C18: Swell Spore Beast [Splinterlands Art Contest W357]

Hello, dear creative Hivers! In this new chapter of my Sketchbook, i finally decided to do some Splinterlands fan art. I had been thinking about doing one for a long time, but i couldn't decide which of all the characters i like to draw. Personally, i've always been a fan of monsters, so i chose one that really caught my attention, called “Swell Spore Beast.”

Hola, queridos hivers creativos! En este nuevo capítulo de mi Sketchbook decidí hacer finalmente un fan art de Splinterlands. Desde hace mucho tiempo tenía pensado hacer uno, pero no me había decidido cuál de todos los personajes que me gustan hacer. Personalmente siempre he sido fan de los monstruos así que escogí uno que llamó mucho mi atención, llamado "Swell Spore Beast".

At first, i thought this new page in my Sketchbook would be difficult. I won't deny it, because I'm not used to doing fan art. I admire those who can easily draw what they see, because i usually struggle with that. So i really wanted to do my own version of a character from this game, because i love the designs of many of the characters and their concepts, especially the earth element. When i picked up my graphite pencil, everything flowed quickly and calmly, so i relaxed with this little creature.

Inicialmente pensé que sería difícil esta nueva página de mi Sketchbook, no lo voy a negar pues yo no acostumbro a hacer fan arts, admiro a los que se les da con facilidad dibujar lo que ven porque yo suelo batallar con eso. Así que realmente quería hacer mi versión de algún personaje de este juego, pues me encantan los diseños de muchos personajes y sus conceptos, en especial del elemento tierra. Cuando tomé mi lápiz de grafito resultó ser que todo fluyó con rapidez y calma, así que me relajé con esta pequeña criatura.

This is a more subtle version of the original character, with a more feminine air and silhouette. It reminds me a little of fauns. Before outlining with ink, i used a warm gray alcohol marker for the base and then did the outline. Although the original art is traditional, i also did a digital sketch to better appreciate the silhouette.

Esta es una versión más sutil del personaje original, con un aire y silueta más femenina. Me recuerda un poco a los faunos. Antes de delinear con tinta, usé un marcador de alcohol de color gris cálido para la base y luego hice el delineado. Aunque el arte original es en tradicional, también hice un boceto digital para apreciar mejor la silueta.

I chose similar colors to the original character, although i changed the skin color because i liked the effect the pink color gave it.

Escogí colores similares al personaje original, aunque en la parte de la piel lo cambié, pues me gustó el efecto que le dió el color rosa.

The materials i used were alcohol markers and colored pencils to soften and blend the base colors better.Although from the beginning i intended to use my watercolors, because i could achieve certain effects that i would need later for the spheres, i couldn't do it because the paper wasn't suitable and i didn't want to ruin my little art book, so i continued with the same materials i had used in my previous drawings.

Los materiales que usé fueron marcadores de alcohol, lápices de colores para suavizar y fusionar mejor los colores base.Aunque desde el principio tenía la intención de utilizar mis acuarelas, porque podía conseguir ciertos efectos que necesitaría más adelante para las esferas, no pude hacerlo porque el papel no era adecuado y no quería estropear mi pequeño libro de arte, así que continué con los mismos materiales que había utilizado en mis dibujos anteriores.

For the background, i used two green alcohol markers, but to intensify the color and make the figure stand out better, i also used colored pencils.I wasn't entirely sure whether to change the background to more complex colors, but since the main figure turned out to be very detailed and elaborate, i decided to keep the green color without adding any other details, as this would prevent the figure from standing out too much. Using pastel colored pencils, i added the softness i was looking for to the background.

Para el fondo usé dos marcadores de alcohol color verde, pero para intensificar más el color y que destaque mejor la figura, usé también lápices de color. No estaba totalmente segura de si cambiar el fondo por otros colores más complejos, como ya la figura principal resultó ser muy detallada y rebuscada decidí mantener el color verde sin agregarle otros detalles pues luego la figura no resaltaría demasiado. Con los lápices de colores pastel le agregó esa suavidad al fondo que buscaba.

To finish this character, i used yellow acrylic marker to highlight the spheres a little more and that effect from the original character. Although my version turned out to be a very different creature from the original, i liked how it turned out. Always respecting the essence and concept of the Spore Beast.

I left this part for last because i knew it would be a little tricky to decide which technique to use to give it that illuminated, gaseous finish, that magical element that this character i love produces. To exaggerate it a little more, i added lights digitally to present it, but i also liked how the original traditional version turned out.

Para finalizar este personaje, usé marcador acrílico color amarillo para destacar un poco más las esferas y ese efecto del personaje original. Aunque mi versión se tornó en una criatura muy diferente a la original me gustó como quedó. Siempre respetando la esencia y el concepto del monstruo de esporas.
Está parte la dejé para el último momento pues sabía que me resultaría un poco complicado definir qué técnica quería usar para darle ese acabado como iluminado, gaseoso, ese elemento mágico que produce este personaje que me encanta. Para exagerarlo un poco más le agregué luces digitalmente para presentarlo Pero me gustó como resultó también el original en tradicional.

Interestingly, Earth Day was celebrated recently, so it was fitting to choose a creature from the earth element. I really like magical creatures from the forest and the fungi kingdom, so it was perfect for the occasion. Curiosamente en estos días se celebró el Día de la Tierra, así que fue oportuno escoger una criatura del elemento tierra, me gustan mucho las criaturas mágicas del bosque y el reino fungi así que fue perfecto para la ocasión. Espero les guste y hasta aquí llegó mi nuevo capítulo número 18 de mi mini libro de arte, está vez dedicado e inspirado en Splinterlands.
