In this seventh chapter of my tiny SketchBook, i went back to the simple. Dedicated to black ink.

En este séptimo capítulo de mi librito de dibujo, regresé a lo simple. Dedicado a la tinta negra.

Last night as always i prepared my work area, i looked for a concert on Youtube to create a good atmosphere, these nights i have felt like watching concerts of my favorite bands from childhood and adolescence, so my time to draw is the perfect time for that. And that's how this somewhat dark creature was born. It wasn't something planned, i didn't know exactly what to do, i just stared at the empty canvas and began to draw the imaginary lines of this peculiar and somewhat mocking specter.

En esta noche como siempre preparé mi área de trabajo, busqué algún concierto en Youtube para crearme un buen ambiente, estas noches he tenido ganas de ver conciertos de mis bandas favoritas de la niñez y adolescencia, así que mi momento de dibujar es el momento perfecto para eso. Y así fue como nació esta criatura un tanto oscura. No fue algo planeado, no sabía qué hacer exactamente, sólo me quedé viendo el lienzo vacío y comencé a trazar las líneas imaginarias de este espectro peculiar y un tanto burlón.

From the moment this little demon took shape i knew it would be a black page. I just saw it, it wouldn't be another colorful, iridescent drawing. Just a little black ink here and there. I started with the background and then little by little i would define the lines and details of the main figure.

Desde que tomó forma este pequeño demonio supe que sería una página negra. Simplemente lo ví, no sería otro dibujo colorido e iridiscente. Sólo un poco de tinta negra por aquí y por allá. Comencé por el fondo y luego poco a poco iría definiendo las líneas y detalles de la figura principal.

I admit that i found this creature very relaxing to draw, maybe because this technique has always been one of my favorites, the black and white drawings, only with ink, remind me of certain comic illustrations and some books of juvenile literature. Where less is more, without using excessive materials, you just play with the lines to give personality to your work. The repetitive strokes immerse me in a creative meditation and i love it. I don't usually draw a lot of male figures because i find them a bit difficult to draw, as any exaggeration in their features distorts them and they are no longer what they should be. But this time it was something hellish, this little creature from some Underworld wanted to manifest itself and i let it be.

Admito que esta criatura me resultó muy relajante de dibujar, tal vez porque esta técnica siempre ha sido una de mis favoritas, los dibujos en blanco y negro, solo con tinta, me recuerdan a ciertas ilustraciones de comics y de algunos libros de literatura juvenil. Donde menos es más, sin utilizar excesivos materiales, sólo te limitas a jugar con las líneas para darle personalidad a tu obra. Los trazos repetitivos me sumergen en una meditación creativa y me encanta. Normalmente no suelo dibujar muchas figuras masculinas porque me resultan un tanto dificiles de dibujar, pues cualquier exageración en sus rasgos se distorsiona y ya no es lo que debería ser. Pero en esta ocasión fue algo infernal, esta pequeña criatura de algún Inframundo se quiso manifestar y lo dejé ser.

I wasn't totally sure whether to leave it completely black or add other details and make it a more elaborate background. In the end i decided to leave it like that and just add some red strokes. The materials i used: for the background a black alcohol marker, for the figure calibrated black ink pens and the details in red with an acrylic marker, the cream colored pencil was only for a little touch of light in certain areas.

No estaba totalmente segura si dejarlo completamente negro o agregarle otros detalles y hacerle un fondo más elaborado. Al final decidí dejarlo así y sólo agregar unos trazos en rojo. Los materiales que utilicé: para el fondo un marcador de alcohol negro, para la figura bolígrafos calibrados de tinta negra y los detalles en rojo con un marcador acrílico, el lápiz de color crema sólo fue para un pequeño toque de luz en ciertas áreas.

And this is the end of the seventh chapter of my mini SketchBook, i think this is one of my favorites.
