Industrialization's Paradox: Economic Growth and Social Inequality

(Edited)

History has it that the revolution of industries formally kicked started during the 18th century; however, before this period, there were back-tracked movements that aided the facilitation of industrialization. It is worthy of note that the event of the revolution of industries made an indelible mark in human history and created a paradigm shift from manual labor to a more sophisticated way of manufacturing commodities and changing the mode of production, distribution, and even consumption of goods.
The result of this transformative change has, over the years, subtly shaped our present world into what we see now.
Nevertheless, there is a price to pay for every change.
"What are the positive and negative impacts of the industrial revolution on the larger society'?
Considering this question will help to shed more light on the subject matter.

The Positive Impact of the Industrial Revolution

1• Economic Growth : The revolution of industries brought about unparalleled economic growth owing to the effective and efficient production of goods and services that are in place. This, in turn, increased the number of job creation and, consequently, increased the standard of living of individuals.

2• Efficient Mode of Food Production: Before recent times, agriculturists relied on the machete, hoe, and laborers to plow the ground this practice however, couldn't provide the abundance of the food supply that was needed because the subsistence farming method required a lot of manpower efforts which usually tends to produce little outputs at the end of the day.
In contrast, the Industrial Revolution contributed to the invention of mechanized farming tools, equipment, and machines, which enabled efficient production of food and saved human strength or effort.

3• Creation of Infrastructural Amenities triggering Urbanisation : There were no distinct features to segregate urban from rural areas before the advent of industrialization, not until after it. The concentration of creating improved infrastructural amenities such as hospitals, commutable roads, electricity supply, water supply (boreholes), and super malls, etc, actually spurred urbanization, which, is the by-product of the revolution of industries.

Negative Impacts of Industrial Revolution.

1• Environment Deterioration : The usage of mechanized apparatus affected the environment negatively, including but not limited to air pollution and noise pollution, and, in turn, resulted in climate change and an unfriendly ecosystem.

2• Creation Of A Wider Gap Between The Proletariat And Bourgeoisie:- As a result of the revolution of industries, the gap between"have and "have not" keeps getting wider with each passing day. As predicted by the Marxist Theory propounded by Karl Marx, the bourgeoisie, who are owners of the means of production and hold the economic power, exploit the labor of the proletariat through unfair remuneration, unhealthy working environment, selfish poor working terms, and conditions; hence widening the gap between the rich, middle class and poor.

Conclusively, the emergence of the revolution of industries has impacted the larger society positively as well as negatively, as it has also fostered unprecedented change in human history.
As we continue to strive for modernization of our world, we should make sure to incorporate sustainability while at it.
