DIY : SEWING AN OFF SHOULDER CAPED HANDKERCHIEF GOWN.

Earlier last week, I got an invitation to attend a corporate setting occasion. I received the invite with gladness, at least that would call for change in my recent boring daily routines. However, my excitement sporadically got flushed down to brooding when I realised I do not have a decent dress to grace the ceremony - I was far from home at the moment.
"That should be a big problem, common! you're fashion designer after all,there's still much time to patch things up", I rhetorically admonished myself.
The next day, I picked and dusted up myself from the trouble of worrying and headed to the market to buy the fabric. Unfortunately, I didn't got what I wanted but at least I ended up getting a fabric near it.

"How do I sew this?"
"Where can I get a sewing machine?"
"*Who will even allow a total stranger to use their sewing machine? I had few numbers of those kinds of questions in like magnitude while I was in transit, returning home in a Lagos mini yellow bus. Here is the genesis of my troubles.

"Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and ye shall find".
What I never asked, is there chances I receive it? Hell no. So, instead of being afraid of rejection that comes with people refusing to allow me use their sew machines, I decided to ask them first and I would understand if they fail to obliged to my offer.
There are quite couples of tailoring shops in that area so, I chose to start with the nearest shop closed to me. Truth be told, she frankly gave me her No and I walked pass her shop to another without no hard feelings. Fortunately for me, the another did said Yes and she did made me feel at home in her shop.

SEWING MATERIALS USED.

• Three yards of fabrics
• Two yards of linen
• Gum stay (for the cape)
• Matching thread
• Zip (for fastening)

THE STEPS

Step 1 : I cut out the bodice of the dress and gave it princess dart.
Step 2 : Cut out the cape after measuring my total chest, so as to get the estimate of the length of my cape.
*** Step 3*** : Cut out a four triangular shapes of the main fabrics for the downward part of the dress and a free sleeve to crown it all up.
