Christmas In The Air : A DIY Guide To My Niece's Hair And Dress For A Christmas Party.
We've spent weeks deliberating on the right outfit she was to wear for the Christmas party at her school. My aunty even went as far as downloading all the plausible dress inspo for kids on Pinterest, but they weren't a great match for my niece, and considering her budget for a Christmas dress? They were No No too.
Reality dawns on us a day before the event when we realize we've made poor prior preparations towards making the day a colorful one for my niece, who is most definitely to weep to a pulp if we tell her to sit back at home.
To salvage the situation, I told my aunt we had to make it all work that night
So, I came up with these;
- A wrapped blouse on a pair of jean trousers.
- A packing gel hairstyle
Oh well, my aunt has this red fabric she has kept in the house for years so, it wasn't a case of ransacking fabric stores that night. Also, she was a fan of red color because of how bright and flashy it appears and this somehow made her feel skeptical about the outcome of the dress.
So, to the cutting and sewing of the blouse.
Materials to be used.
- Matching Thread
- Matching Bias for piping of the necklines
The Cutting
Step 1: Cut out the bodice of the back part of the dress and consider appropriate body measurements.
For this blouse, her shoulder length is 9.
Her bust circumference is 24
Her waist circumference is 23.
Divide each of these measurements taken to ascertain the back bodice measurements.
**Step 2 **: Place the cut-out back bodice on a
two folded fabrics and add a 6-inch allowance to the front part; this allowance is for the overlapping of the blouse.
Step 3: The neckline of the front neckline should be V-shaped, then slant it downwards.
Step 3: Cut the sleeves and give them a puffy effect. Also, cut out fabric for the belt for the fastening of the blouse and a bow, too.
The Sewing
- Do the facing with the bias.
- Join the front shoulder to the back shoulder.
- Join the both bodice.
- Attach the belt at the waistline and leave an opening by where you join the dress; this is a passage for the belt.
- Finally, attach the bow to the part.
The Hairstyle.
My niece has a very delicate hair texture; it's way too soft, and meanwhile, her hair is unpermed, which made it so difficult for me to work with at first.
Hair stuff to be used
Hair wax
Hair black gel
Afro kinky hair extensions
Hair bead.
The Hair styling Process
Step 1: Weave the sides of the hair and add the afro kinky to it for stamina and the beading.
Step 2: Part the hair into two and hold them with the hair wax and then the black hair gel.
Step 3: Attach the Afro kinky hair extension to the parted hair and put the beads in the side weave hair.
Tada! The results are here...
P.S; You're free to admire and also copy the style inspo, smiles.
