A coffee a day, keeps the trouble away.
I still remember the day someone told me that there would come a time when my day would feel incomplete or unfulfilled if I didn't have my morning coffee. I scoffed at the idea, thinking, "Wait forever, that day is not gonna come." But, as fate would have it, that day did arrive.
My initial dislike for coffee stemmed from its bitter taste. However, that changed when I visited a friend who insisted I try a sip of the coffee he had prepared alongside pancakes for breakfast. The taste wasn't what I expected; it was milky and not too bitter, with an aroma that was simply captivating. What struck me most, though, was the unusual good sleep I had later that day, contrary to the popular opinion that coffee keeps you awake and active.
Following that experience, I made it a point to religiously drink coffee every morning. It became an essential part of my daily routine, and I couldn't imagine starting my day without it.
But, as with all good things, my coffee streak was broken on a particular morning during my sophomore year as an undergraduate. I was undergoing Industrial Training at the time and had brought home a lot of unfinished work from the office. Determined not to incur my boss's wrath the following day, I sacrificed my beauty sleep to complete the tasks.
The next morning, I woke up with a pounding headache, courtesy of my alarm clock. Groggily, I made my way to the bathroom and then hastily dressed to catch the staff bus to the office. As a student, I couldn't afford to incur extra expenses. Upon arriving at work, I struggled to focus, making countless mistakes on the tasks assigned to me. My mood was down, and everyone who saw me kept asking, "What's wrong with you?" I brushed it off as just one of those days when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed.
However, after some reflection, I realized I had skipped my morning coffee in my haste. That's when it dawned on me how much I had come to rely on it. Ever since that day, I adopted a new mantra: "It's better to be late than to make a mess of your day." I now prioritize my morning coffee, ensuring I never repeat that experience.
The following morning, I almost made the same mistake however, my conscious intentional effort cut that out of my way. Because tell me, who do I tell that, I'm likely to lose focus just because, I didn't give my body system the morning treat have accustomed it to,that sounds ridiculous right?
My journey with coffee has taught me valuable lessons about self-care, and the importance of small habits. While it may seem insignificant to some, my morning coffee has become an indispensable part of my daily routine, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
