The last beer of the Metalhead collection is down. Let’s see my top 3 favorites!
It is a bit sad, but it’s true… Today I am reviewing the last one of the Metalhead brewery product lineup, at least what was being sold at the local market chain. I enjoyed all the beers, some of them more than the otjers, but I wouldn’t refuse any one of them. You may know that the beers sold at this store were mainly IPAs and variations of the style, and today’s one does not make exception.
The River Runs Red beer is, as you can guess, a red IPA. The label is interrsting, although I liked the previous ones better. This one is some sort of adult comics to me. I find that the others are a lot more interesting and enjoyable to watch and stands out on the shelves of beer section.
I have never really liked the red IPAs… they are too malty, or biscuit flavored to my taste and I prefer beers that tell stories with their hop character. After all it is an IPA, before ot is a red beer. And if a red beer becomes too dry, I tend to dislike the dry red malt flavors. They are not my thing…
The River Runs Red is… reddish in color, but if you want to see its real glare you should look it in front some source of light. The craft IPA, being a bit hazy too, just cannot show the real brilliance of the color.
In the nose the beer was hoppy, but the hoppiness is somehow mixed wih this maltiness.
The head is pretty thick and lasting. Generally the beer looks good for what is supposed to be. Now let’s proceed to the tasting part, shall we?
The hops aren’t that well pronounced, for an IPA beer, and the maltiness seems to be killing the fresh tastes a bit. I was expecting a bit more boost of tropical and various citrus fruits, but they aren’t there at all. Of course, rhe malt is here! The red varieties are very powerful at the tasting, same as the black coffee like malts.
The beer is good overall, but it is really not up to my tastes. If I have a choice I would probably never pick this one. It misses a bit of character and is somehow on the bottom side of the whole lineup. If someone brings me some, I wont refuse them, but probably never gonna buy myself one again.
Now to the rankings…
The third place goes to…
The biscuit imperial stout! Ot can easily go into the second place, but these days it is very hot and I would prefer some fresher and juicier beer!
The second place…
Some Turbo Lover time seems just perfect now. This American Pale Ale combines the hop freshness needed in the hot summer days and light body feels perfect if you want to consume more than one beer!
And the first place… hm…
Lady Lust just broke them all! The milkshake IPA was like a hop bomb and the addition of lactose added a great deal of juiciness in this can. The label design is not my favorite, but the beer is nuts! If I had the chance I would enjiy one every single day, until I get bored 😁
Some last words…
I enjoyed all these beers a lot and comparing them was an interesting journey to me. I would like to see other breweries to be offered at the big market chains, because this act makes craft beer a little bit more affordable.
That’s for now. See you soon and have a nice Sunday.
Bye and cheers! 🍻🍺
