We Didn't Have Enough Money To Buy Lunch: Harvesting Some Kangkong Right In Front Of Our House

Nowadays, I have realized how plants help us get through daily life.
Like, there are moments when you need something to cook, and instead of rushing to the market, you step outside and harvest what's already there.
Also, there are times when the budget is tight, and living in a place where nature provides feels like an unspoken blessing.
Like what we experienced yesterday when we didn't have enough money to buy lunch.
Right in front of our house is a vacant lot, and it has a small pond that collects rainwater.

One of the things that thrives there is kangkong (water spinach).

It grows freely without anyone planting it.
--
Because the lot is vacant and open, we've considered the plants there to be public.
Like nature is the one sharing it with us. ☺️
So yesterday, we decided to harvest some of it for lunch.
My hubby is the one getting it, just enough for our small family.

This is how Filipinos make do with what's available.
When there's no budget for extra groceries, we check what nature can offer.
A few greens for a simple ulam are enough.

We paired it with canned sardines and sauteed it lightly.

And there you go, simple food comes straight from nature.
Enough to fill our stomachs.
Actually, today, when everything seems to require money, living simply is the best way to survive. And, of course, be grateful for what nature can offer.
Until my next meal...
Thanks for the visit! Have a lovely day. Buh-bye. 💗🌸

Such a heartfelt post. It really shows the beauty of simple living and being grateful for what nature provides, especially in times of need.
Thanks for appreciating. 🩷 That's what you call contentment. 🤗
What a blessing, my friend. Nature provides. That's good.
Yeah, it is. It got his magic, which gives us the good stuff, no matter what. 🩷 Thanks for dropping by and leaving this sweet comment. 🌷
