My Mom has glaucoma. It is a serious eye disease that leads to vision loss or blindness if left untreated.

As of now, her right eye already suffers from permanent vision loss. Her left eye is the only one functioning, but also in critical condition due to increased eye pressure.

Check-up & Result

Last Monday, she went to her eye doctor for a check-up. After examining her left eye, they found out that it had high eye pressure (30 mmHg — Normal eye pressure is between 10-20 mmHg) that needed urgent treatment. The doctor prescribed her 5 different eye drops and treatment tablets, which are called "emergency medicine" to prevent vision loss.

Another thing, the doctor suggested was an emergency operation (to be decided after 10 days). The operation will help to relieve eye pressure and prevent loss of vision. But there's also a risk of resulting in permanent vision loss, which is rare.

So because of that possibility, my Mom thought of prolonging the operation. Asking the doctor if it's possible to schedule it after my brother's wedding (probably in May). She wants to witness it at least with her eye. 😭 However, because of her critical condition, the doctor requires immediate medical attention. And will happen next week.

The decision

My Mom decided to accept the surgery. Which requires P30,000. But reduced to P15,000 if PhilHealth coverage was used. And an additional P5,000 for the doctor's fee.
